The title starts it off on a really bad note.

The title starts it off on a really bad note. I don't know; I have to wonder if the title was their way of leaning into the campiness of it. Like, they knew they had a ridiculous title already, so why not ratchet it up another notch?

It could still have been stupid and still been more accurate.
I haven't seen the movie in a long time, but I remember it being just about as stupid and forgettable as the first.

I just rewatched this and the original on the 4th of July. I don't know why they didn't just have Julie go the Bahamas of her own volition. Fisherman being forced to follow her makes more sense than him a. Faking a radio contest b. Buying plane/boat fair for her AND her friends c. Tricking the resort staff into believing the scheme d. Killing everyone there e. Having his son infiltrate her social circle for no particular reason. Dude, just stab her and move on.
And why does Fisherman give so little f***s about Ray? Ray's not only the one who ran him over in the first place, but also the one who chopped his hand off. Julie is the least guilty party.
The first was already pretty stupid, but this one goes full retard. Speaking of full retard, Jack Black's not the only one excruciatingly awful. One of the most annoying casts in slasher history. And I think JLH's cleavage get more than "a cameo or two". They get more screentime than Mekhi Pfifer.

It's a mediocre sequel sure, but it ain't even nearly as bad as the third.

but how was the original? I thought it was pretty bad. Mediocre at best. I remember one critic calling Kevin Williamson "the most overpaid writer currently working in Hollywood" when this was released. Hard to disagree with that. His fame was very short-lived though.

It's been in limbo hell for a few years. Michael Flanagan made some updates about the film's plot being a completely different take (no Fisherman, no hook, etc.) But ultimately nothing.

I've never read it, but I'd heard that the novel is much more serious and emotional and has to do with the writer's own experience of a murderered family member. Maybe it will go for that angle and come off as less silly. Not that we need it in any way, and not that I have any knowledge of how the book is supposedly better, but I do like Mike Flanagan.

I watched the first two recently and thought both of them mediocre scoring them 5/10. The second film isn't that much worse than the first but i watched the third last night and it's definitely worse than the first two. I was feeling generous though and gave it a 4/10

I saw the first two in theatres, both were a good time, but nothing to get too excited over. I think the first one has some really effective moments.

From your review:Haha! I like it better than the first movie. Jack Black's goofy ass stoner is hilarious. I's tone is breezier than IKWYDLS, not as serious. All the pros you mentioned in your review make it pretty rewatchable to me, unlike IKWYDLS. I don't own any of them, but I like it. Used to watch it on STARZ a lot.

Haha Hey, thanks for reading my review. And I agree, there's much more entertainment value with this one than the first, provided you know what you're in for. I too used to watch this all the time in the late 90s.

Lois Duncan's daughter Katie was found shot to death in her Car. Duncan passed away not getting closure. She wrote a book about it called "Who killed my daughter?"
The novel was written in the 1970's & set in the Desert. So no Fisherman or Hook. Elsa was an overweight frumpy character jealous of newscaster Helen. Etc. The Teens accidentally run over a kid on a Bike. It's more of a suspense mystery and was never meant to be a slasher. Lois hated the movie.
