Wake of the Red Witch was perhaps John Wayne's most strangest film. Interesting change of pace though.

I've seen an awful lot of them, but there are only two I really love: Moonrise and Come Next Spring. I don't quite understand the appreciation for the others. I think the inclusion of Allan Dwan's 'Surrender' is nice because Martin Scorsese never misses an opportunity to go to bat for Dwan. He considers the Canadian Dwan to be one of North America's most neglected filmmakers. I've not seen 'Surrender' myself.

That's an unusual and interesting list. Thanks for sharing it.
I watched 'Moonrise' for the first time last year; beautiful, poetic film from Frank Borzage.

Damn! I haven't seen any of those mentioned movies, but heard about them, Yes!.
I've read some trivia about John Wayne, that he got the name of his own production company from Wake of the Red Witch, Batjack, but was missplled by a printing company as Batjac, and Wayne liked that even better.
I don't know if that is true, or it's just one of those legends that still floats around.

I would be very disappointed if I bought a job lot of DVDs unseen and got landed with that lot.
