German cannibal who ate his lover with his permission

^This isn't a joke people. This is actually the way his "mind" works. 

So back to the story, I remember watching a few interviews with the guy. If I recall, he certainly came off as very calm, quite intelligent, very pensive. I also thought I understood that in certain parts of the civilized world, that technically cannibalism is not illegal, but murder is and that's the primary crime, the murder, with the cannibalism secondary. But I don't think it's as clear cut and dry. It's about bringing him up for the actual murder.

What I find fascinating from a psychological viewpoint is the fact that there is plenty of documentation where this was quite obviously a consensual act. That part just baffles me. Two consenting adults. And it does make me wonder, what if he mutilated the man, with permission, but there was no death? How would that work?

I often watch QI (Quite Interesting) with Stephen Fry (and now with Sandi Toskgiv) and I think I remember a discussion coming up about the strangeness of this case. I'm not addressing it from a moralistic or ethical viewpoint, but I find the whole aspect interesting.
