"American Sniper" (2014) is about a right wing conservative Neo-Republican Christian who is all about killing Arabs and hating liberals! His heroics include a death kill count. Hell yeah!
"Hacksaw Ridge" (2016) is about a soldier who doesn't believe in killing, who refused to use a weapon because Jesus says not to kill, Jesus instructs "live by the sword, die by the sword" His heroics include saving countless lives of men from both sides of the battle. He refused to let others influence his beliefs or compromise his morals.

I enjoyed Hacksaw Ridge more I think although neither are particularly great to me.

I love Hacksaw Ridge, and I almost love American Sniper. American Sniper is too long and I thought the ending was pretty sloppy, but the character and war stuff is very well done.
Hacksaw Ridge had no business being as good as it was. Gibson made an unmakable movie in my opinion, then somehow made it amazing.

I'll never get how both liberals and conservatives see American Sniper as some jingoistic rah-rah brown bloodbath. Eastwood is anti-war, it features some obligatory PC Muslims, and it's about a guy with PTSD. *Shrug*
Either way, Hacksaw Ridge is way better.

I loved Hacksaw Ridge and American Sniper was one of my favorites that year. The only thing I really found objectionable in the latter film was the hilariously fake looking baby.
