The Grapes of Wrath Slaughterhouse Five Catch-22 The Illustrated Man Awesome list of films here maxwellperfect . Definitely saw The Grapes of Wrath 1940 a most powerful film indeed - I agree . Surprisingly haven't seen the rest of these films from this list but will definitely be looking out for these films on TCM now . Slaughterhouse-Five 1972 Catch-22 1970 The Illustrated Man 1969 Thanks so much maxwellperfect for these movie recommendations and your reply .

I can relate because in my youth I was a big fan of the HG Wells movies you listed, but also the Jules Verne stories. Journey To The Center Of The Earth (1959) 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea (1954) Mysterious Island (1961) Master Of The World (1961) Around The World In 80 Days (1956)
Others...
Dracula (1931) Frankenstein (1931) Captains Courageous (1937) War And Peace (1956) Fahrenheit 451 (1966) The Illustrated Man (1969) Slaughterhouse-Five (1972) The Man Who Would Be King (1975) Barry Lyndon (1975)
And some more modern versions of classic books...
The Razor's Edge (1984) Out Of Africa (1985) White Fang (1991) The Last Of The Mohicans (1992)

There was / is a game over on the Trivia Board with the subject being "movies based on classic novels"
I was surprised at how few of the works of Mark Twain had been filmed. The topic had to be abandoned because the required Baker's Dozen could not be assembled. French Novels were mostly Jules Verne stories and Russian writers are proving to not be filmed all that often (re-makes not allowed).
