I saw 1984 last night and thought it was soooooo very boring. John Hurt was great, but the whole utopian plot with Big Brother was supposed to mean something like where the USA is going, but this was a bit too much. What do you thing???

I thing it's a little bit to much where the USA is going with its utopian pot. Does a Big Brother mean something when only John got hurt? I felt soooooo boring when watching Last Night in 1984.

Utopian? I guess I fundamentally misunderstood this movie.

I think, like the book, it's supposed to be boring.

the book was written in the immediate postwar period, when rationing was still going on in Britain, there were shortages of everything, and things were rather drab. George Orwell envisioned this state of affairs continuing , and the government becoming more and more totalitarian, until absolutely everything was controlled. The book is bleak and depressing, and I imagine the film is too.

I loved the faceless, emotionless policemen in the movie. Oh wait, we have that now.

Never saw this version, only the one with Edmund O'Brien and Jan Sterling. Despite my not being a fan of Sterling, I liked the film.
