They really should just reboot it. I don't think anyone will object. Something more in the spirit of the original series and god forbid, kids can watch w/o asking about the weed references.

SCOOBY-DOO PART 1 3/10 SCOOBY-DOO PART 2: MONSTERS UNLEASHED 1/10 SCOOBY-DOO PART 3: THE MYSTERY BEGINS 1/10 SCOOBY-DOO PART 4: CURSE OF THE LAKE MONSTER 2/10 It would be unfair to dismiss DAPHNE & VELMA just for not having all 5 members of the Mystery Inc. gang (that has happened before). The problem is not having Scooby-Doo. Why do you think his name is always on the title even if he technically isn't the protagonist? Because he's what helps each movie/TV show stand out. Without him, what separates the story from any other family-friendly mystery? In fact, nothing about the plot of this movie (which by the way is boring despite only being 72 minutes long) made me think "Yes, this needed to have Daphne Blake and Velma Dinkley. It couldn't be anyone else." Scooby's owners began as stock characters, so an adaptation with only 2 of them should show how their different personalities complement each other. A prequel is a good opportunity since we can see them meeting and maybe even struggling to become friends. Here, they're already friends at the beginning and they don't really have a comedy duo dynamic. Come on! Even SCOOBY-DOO PART 3: THE MYSTERY BEGINS explored all that and it had all 4 of them! Sarah Gilman is a better choice than Linda Cardellini and Hayley Kiyoko. Not that they're bad actresses, but a lot of effort was put into transforming them into Velma (and their installments still had scenes where Velma changed into a sexy outfit and/or a male character stared at her with his tongue about to fall out), while Sarah already looks and sounds a lot like the character's original design. No, I'm not calling her ugly. In fact, she played a similar character in I DIDN'T DO IT and there was an episode where she had a makeover. The change wasn't even that radical, because it didn't need to be. While she's not a sex symbol, she has that "girl next door" beauty. I just wish she had been given more material to work with. None of the jokes are funny (the cartoon trope about the eyes being the only visible thing in a dark place looks creepy in live action!) and the culprit's identity is so obvious based on casting. That being said, the aesthetics during the climax is eye-pleasing. There's a scene where Daphne says "It was real...", he pauses, and then he says "... ly me." This joke would've worked if the characters were British. However, the words "Real" and "Really" don't have the same phonetic sounds in the U.S." (riəl / ˈrɪli). 1/10 SCOOB! 5/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog.

I hope they make 'Scooby Doo 3'. A 50 year old Scooby gang? That'd be something different. But yeah, 2 was an improvement over 1. Still not great, but it felt more like the show at least.

Apparently 2 was much more like the cartoon. In what way I don’t know I never cared to see the 2nd, but from everything I’ve heard it was an improvement over the first.
