UNFORTUNATELY, it's ANTICLIMACTIC ENDING with NO FIGHTING and Dracula being KILLED OFF-SCREEN (you hear him moan as he's supposedly being stabbed to death by a wooden stake through his heart) makes it NOT a great film but only a good one. Renfield's death was BETTER.
7/10.

Still the best Dracula movie yet.

I give it a 7 as well, mainly for the atmosphere and quality performances. The Wolfman, the Mummy, and the Frankenstein trilogy are all better movies as a whole.

7/10. I agree completely with you on this one. As classic as it is the ending left me underwhelmed to say the least.

It’s the Friday the 13th of the Universal Horrors. Entertaining, but not as good as the rest of its kind in its prime.

It's a solid 8 for me.
I'm more of a Wolfman/Creature From The Black Lagoon/Bride of Frankenstein man myself.

I thought this thread had been moved to the Movie Ratings section. I think RiP, IMDb posted it here, in Movie Ratings, and in Classics.

James Whale's Frankenstein came out the same year and I found it to be a much better film.
As far as Dracula is concerned, I'll stick with the Christopher Lee incarnation, thank you very much.

A generous 5/10. You can tell it's adapted from a stage play.

A generous 5/10. You can tell it's adapted from a stage play. Surprisingly, though, very little of it is adapted from the stage play in question—mostly just the Dracula-Van Helsing dialogue. The post-Transylvania scenes are very stagey (though, as I wrote before, I feel the picture has other qualities), but the staginess was, curiously enough, written for the screen.

Cue reprint of lengthy Salzmank-penned essay again, in case anyone has nothing better to do!

There may be something great about it … it was made in 1931 … by my calculation, 87 years ago, and we are still watching it, talking about it, quoting it, enjoying it and, for some of us, still loving it and not in an Ed Woods way.
