Yes. I'm a fan of many aspects of the US, but it most certainly is flawed in exactly that way. Trump has proved this. But he clearly can't be. He isn't eloquent. He doesn't seem to think before he speaks. He doesn't speak like a politician, but he cannot be an idiot. Sure he can. And he patently is. I doubt his IQ is greater than 75 or so. He's the Forrest Gump of politicians, stumbling his way into success with no comprehension of what he's doing.

You know you've stumbled into some strange alternate reality when you find a thread where Smithjgs/Cooljgs is one of the people not coming across as a dumbf-ck.

However it is very important to know if Trump had communications with Russia when his staff speaks dishonestly about it. I don't agree with that. Why is it important? How does it affect anyone's daily life?

How does it affect anyone's daily life? The president shouldn't be concerned too much about a person's daily life and the press is not asking on that basis. His main directive is the entire economy and not just a bunch of colminers in a dying industry.
In any event, when his staff lie about communications and someone says it doesn't matter because it doesn't affect anyone's daily life, I gotta know how that person would possibly know that since considering we don't know what they talked about. Maybe they were talking about Bubba's coal mining job.
At the macro level that the president should reside in, I think secretly talking to a government decidedly different from another one and admired by the president could certainly affect daily life.
In any event, it is silly to think that the news should not report on news. That's how they stay in business. I think they should largely ignore Trumps ridiculous Twitter rants overall, but there won't be a time that they won't have something to say about his policies considering so many of his policies are retarded and they are retarded at a global level.

But the entire economy is simply the sum of a bunch of individual's actions; it's both affected by those individuals and it has effects on those individuals. So it's not the case that it's somehow divorced from folks' daily lives.

That's not the same thing as Trump being concerned with the individual worker.
But this is also why secret discussions with the Russians also could have an impact on the individual which is why it makes perfect sense to investigate it.
We definitely can't just say "So what" to secret meetings and then say it has no impact when we don't even know what those meetings were.

It may have no impact whatsoever beyond the fact they lied, but that's what investigations are for.
To be clear, though, I think ou are wrong to focus solely on the day to ay lives of the individual. The president's role in foreign affairs is an important aspect as well.

Of the perpetual bitching about Trump? After two years of social media bitching. Of scrutinising every thing he does for sexism, racism etc etc. You're getting really boring, Yanks. Not sure what to say, man. When I got bored of the Brexit stuff I just laid off social media posts that featured that material. Seemed easier than chastising the whole of the UK.

He clearly isn't an idiot. Clearly? Hmmm, he may not be an 'idiot'... but I'll debate the clarity of such. He is, however, clearly an ignorant, narcissistic, enabled, reactionary, spoiled ego-maniac of a whiny little bitch.
Idiot? Maybe not.

It's the same here and this is supposed to be an election year It's not Trump wanting attention, though. It's the American far-left media which is terrified of losing the ground in the American mind that they've labored so hard to steal down thru the decades which fuels all the false reporting. Trump represents the reclamation of American patriotism in American minds. The far left despises that idea. What Trump is doing is only controversial to them. Believe it or not, we have our own media to shove your president down our throats. We might import a lot of culture from the US, but news is still produced locally, and generally political news is focused on our own governments and the other governments in our region, not that of governments on the other side of the planet. Since Trump was elected, I've heard shitall about what is happening in South Korea with their president, for example. You might have even heard of some of our media moguls...like Rupert Murdock, for example. I believe he's a Yank now, but he was born here and he still owns enough of the media to shove what he wants down our throats no matter how much we try to avoid it. I've never heard him - or any of his news services - called left wing, though. Then again, I've never heard protectionism described as right wing before either. They were always the "left wing", to the "right wing" free market capitalists. For some reason, these days "left" and "right" seem to depend on social issues rather than the economy. Are the xenophobic protectionists left wing or right wing...or does it depend on where they stand on the gay marriage issue?

It seems that we are slightly more fortunate than you are - I have heard news about Sth Korea, not on TV which cares only about the USA but on Radio New Zealand.

The bitching is part of the reason why the Trump presidency is so entertaining. And we still have four years of it. Possibly eight...

Maybe if he was your leader you would be bitching too Yes, facebook posts and memes on Twitter will end the tyranny! Social media actually helped swing both the Brexit and Trump votes. You forget there are a lot of extremely vacuous voters out there.

I wish our media would move on especially as we have an election this year. Why is it that Ada is such a YUGE fan of Trump?

Because...Erjen, a guy so laughably ignorant of politics he spent years accusing Obama of being a fascist yet remains oblivious to the fact that we now have a U.S. President who appoints actual fucking fascists (Pence, Bannon...) to positions of power.
