poelzig... I hope that whatever has your shorts in a twist tonight gets resolved as you are more tolerable when you aren't turning a casual remark into a major hill of the mole built variety. OR as my "ilk-mate" Aj_June said so admirably ...

That's potentially worse than "So, what do you do?". Although both men and women ask that annoying question.

Bringing up another relatively common small talk ploy: People who ask your political or religious affiliation when neither is the topic of a conversation ... them …… argh ! Especially true when they are total strangers waiting in line in a store or sitting next to you on public transportation. It's like it's their right to know and they try to make you feel guilty if you don't tell them OR if you indicate that it's none of their business with either a "I prefer not to discuss religion/ politics" or openly say "IT'S NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS !"

How did you meet? If you mention you're in a relationship it's always the first question. And they usually say it like this "Soooooo how did you guys meet?" I'm just glad I have a good story, and not met online. Guys will ask sometimes but not as often. The easy answer would be just to say well it's just the first question that comes to mind but then how come guys don't ask this every time but every girl has asked me this right away so why do women need to know this? Will they judge the relationship based off this one question? I can't ever remember being asked that question, but perhaps I was.
However, I think I've just come up with the perfect answer.
"When I saw her photograph in the mail order catalogue, I knew she was the one."
Even better: Of all the girls chained up in that basement, she just had a spark in her eye...
