Jays trade proven closer Osuna for lost 'it' closer Giles from Houston along with a couple prospects, one of which was suspended 80 games for PED use.
Is it just me or do I not get why people would be so upset to have a guy, once punished by MLB and the judicial system, pitch for them? Are Astros' fans really going to be upset by having Osuna on their team, especially if he pitches like he did with Toronto? Would Jays' fans have been that upset to have Osuna back?

He might get tried and go to jail for thumping his girlfriend. If he's convicted, MLB could tack on another year suspension. Risky move for Houston, but then again, they are trading the closer of the Fresno Grizzlies. An Osuna hasn't pitched all year. How rusty will he be?
If Houston gets a top rated 9th inning guy, the AL could be over.

Osuna's only thrown three innings in AAA (I didn't even know he was here in Buffalo). Giles has been a catastrophe in Fresno. 8.44 ERA, which is off the charts for a closer. The PCL is a bitch for pitchers, but I could have a lower ERA.

Would Jays' fans have been that upset to have Osuna back? Talk here is that Rogers would not want to set precedent just because of the quality of the player. If he was Roberto Osuna g/f beater with 1-3 season record, 4 saves, & a 6.79 e.r.a. he'd be gone without even a blip. That's the key point - 75 games, no appeal. Ppl think there's real evidence which cannot be undone. The only other option was to play him at Buffalo for the rest of 2018 & hope by next March the story was well enough in the rear view.

did Giles fall out of favor in Houston?
wasn't he hopping back and forth between setup man and closer for years?
thought after a rocky start he had regained a bit of his form.....

Decent pickup. He isn't the player he was a couple years ago but he still is a good defender and has some power. With Pedroia out for the season (probably and Rafael Devers out for a while, it gives the Sox some depth. The bullpen before Kimbrel is still a worry and the team didn't address that.

Phillies acquire Wilson Ramos for a player to be named later. I always liked Ramos, quality player.

I think Rondon is a good closer, I don’t see why the Astros need this scumbag Osuna to come in, Rondon has done a good job as closer and I think he should keep the job, and their bullpen is solid and fairly deep, but more bullpen depth always helps, and getting rid of Giles was a good move, he’s had a shitty year and doesn’t get along with Hinch. Still I don’t think Osuna should replace Rondon as closer, that would be a bad move IMO.

Ramos will be back in the next week or so and he has a quality bat.

Pirates land Chris Archer in exchange for Tyler Glasnow, Austin Meadows and an as-of-yet unconfirmed third player. Glasnow, a 6'8" hurler who has been in the top-50 prospects in baseball the past few years but hasn't quite made that final jump. I don't know much about Meadows, other than he's a CF with power potential.
Surprising move here. Good for you, Pirates!

Regardless, he's been punished by MLB, might get punished by the legal system which could lead to more MLB punishment. He shouldn't be allowed to pitch anymore?

Gausman and O'Day to the Braves Brian Dozier to the Dodgers Johnathan Schoop to the Brewers and a bunch of bullpen moves that you can see here www.mlbtraderumors.com/The Archer trade is wild. Pirates raise the white flag in the offseason and possibly make the biggest move at the trade deadline. Archer is no summer rental. And the Rays got some nice pieces in return. Red Sox make no move to improve the bullpen, now anyway. Lots of deals can be made in August. Ask Justin Verlander. The Orioles will be an interesting story. They are at a .300 winning clip now. That's roughly a 113-114 loss season (not doing the math but I know a 111 loss season is .315). Can the O's make a run at 120 "0's"?

Just look at the evidence, Osuna beat his girlfriend to a pulp. You wouldn’t be apologizing for him if he wasn’t a good pitcher, you just believe athletes should get special treatment. Innocent until proven guilty applies in a court of law, I have the right to my opinion and my opinion is Osuna is a woman beating piece of shit who shouldn’t be on an MLB team.

MLB clearly thought there was enough there to give him a 75 game suspension. I have no doubt he did something bad and will hopefully get punished for it at which point MLB might punish him some more. But once that's over he'll be available to resume his career so given his age and how good he's been I see no reason why he couldn't have returned to the Jays.
I find it interesting that one of the guys coming back has been suspended 80 games for PED use.
