Of those, I chose The Thing. It's more grounded than supernatural stories where the premise is too ludicrous to ever happen but not so grounded as a psycho/slasher flick where you find yourself questioning how certain things are happening in an otherwise grounded world. It hits that nice, happy middle.
Plus, horror films having to do with identity are right up my alley. Horror is very subjective. I'd consider Existenz to be one of the more horrifying films I've seen and it's not even a horror film.
Of them, I'd say the scariest is The Exorcist.

Psycho is the choice for me on that list, a great film, although I actually prefer the book and film it inspired, American Psycho.
Here is the soundtrack to Psycho (1960):
It has very mesmerizing and uncompromising music that really keeps one alert to the tensions of the film, yet simultaneously disoriented.

Black Christmas is the ultimate proto-slasher movie that still holds up as horrifying today. The phone calls alone make the creepy calls in the Scream series seem quaint.

I voted Exorcist, but if this was on the list it would have gotten my vote. And also Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Of the options given my pick is Psycho, but the best horror movie ever made is The Shining as far as I'm concerned.

The Omen(1976) is my go to. If allowed to make multiple choices I would've also picked Rosemary's Baby and Alien.
