"The fact that a believer is happier than a skeptic is no more to the point than the fact that a drunken man is happier than a sober one." George Bernard Shaw Inspired at this very moment in time by AJ's thread about the correlation between happiness and religion. (Don't worry, thefleetsin , I'm just borrowing your schtick this once!)

i remember, years ago, having to draw a picture to a poster explaining my schtick. aaaarrrrrg.
the best i could muster at the moment was 'think of me as a cross between the dowager from downton abbey and baby stewie from family guy.' ;-)

Care to share which poster it was that needed the picture drawn?

i don't remember who. i remember it was on the old imdb board. there were a lot of wild characters on that board and i followed a specific list of posters who i enjoyed reading. that dude was not one of them, but one of those dive bombers who hit a posting forum and THANKFULLY never return.

I once tried 500 ml of whiskey (johnnie walker double black) along with a few shots of vodka. That still didn't make me drunk. I want to experience that thing that drunken people experience but it appears I can't because it seems when I have alcohol (which is like once in 2 years) all I get is a feeling of sleepiness. I never behave like those drunken characters in movies do.

My late husband was a happy drunk and sometimes a mean sober. His family of origin was terribly dysfunctional, and he had a really dark side. But drunk? Happy as a clam, funny, endearing. Had I realized that earlier in our marriage, I would have spiked his coffee every morning with vodka.

Same here. My uncle seems like one of those mean drunks. He can be very nasty when under influence of alcohol.
Happy that you were blessed with a nice man as life companion.

With the possible exception of "evangelicals" (whatever those are) religious people do not get drunk.
Did I spoil the joke?

Thanks, I just wish I could have had him longer, he died a few months shy of our 10th anniversary. But I still think of him every day, he changed my life so much for the better.

Okay, here's a funny atheist quote before I log off and hit the bottle:
Here lies an atheist All dressed up And no place to go. - Epitaph

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?
"Epicurus"

Exactly. And a happy clappy moron with an IQ of 60 is probably happier than a genius.

Today, a quote from Dr. Carl Sagan:
"You can't convince a believer of anything; for their belief is not based on evidence, it's based on a deep seated need to believe."
So, I am going to stop trying to convince Cody of anything, get off this board and go live my life. I'm not wasting another minute on an impossible task.
