I loved it. Best film of this sub-genre in at least the last ten years, in my opinion, and the best of all Mission Impossible movies. I had very little recollection of the previous one, only that I didn't like the story very much. On this one, the action is fantastic, and I thought the story held together better (with the exception of some small details, such as them parachuting exactly into the target even though they had no control during the descent, or the preposterous and contrived "flaw" in the design of the detonator that made it possible to disarm the bombs).
And the scenes in the end filmed with IMAX cameras - WOW!

A very good film, pushed it a bit too far with "twists" and cliff hangers (I wonder how long those 15 minutes actually were?). The Walker character was a mostly useless addition except for plot purposes, no real personality. It may have been written for Dwayne Johnson.

salomonj "By the end of this film I was practically in tears, not because it was particularly emotive in the sense of themes resonating deeply with me, but because everything I saw was mind-blowing to an absurd fucking degree. It’s still hard to focus at this point but hot take: this might be the greatest action movie ever made." I agree about the mind blowing/ness of it. But the twist on the twist PLUS the moral/emotional insight into Ethan's soul was something I felt was bringing it down a bit. Without that I would have been completely extatic. That being sad, I will be seeing it a few more times again for sure. The action was simply amazing. I liked how the action scenes seemed to keep topping themselves as the movie went on. The Halo Jump leading into the bathroom setpiece had me on edge. It's one of the few action films where the third act was stunning. I was actually thrilled and excited for most of the movie.

My big problem is that it was too obivous walker was gonna be a bad guy right from the start yeah i hear you the 20 mil mustache was a dead giveway but did you really think he was Lark right from the start? Even if, with MI I dont really mind certain level of predictability like i could predict the benji solomon switch but didnt mind. to me predictability is not a major if any real flaw with movies these days as i think we, the audiance are already too savvvy and suspisouc about everythig since sixth sense at least and ti do a really completelly unexpected twist is a mastery that not all movies really aim for. speaking of mastery - have you seen Hereditary?

Just saw it myself earlier in the week. It was quite good. Not perfect, but a solidly good film in the franchise.
