I really like The Matrix, but I always thought the ending was a huge let-down.

An American Werewolf in London anthonyrocks, @snakeeyes43: What?! I loved the ending to that movie. Yes it's depressing, but that's kind of the point. You wouldn't have done anything else in that situation, even if there was help that came shortly after. I think it made the whole thing more realistic for the fate of these characters.

That^ movie actually happens to be on TV again tonight, which I plan on recording and watching (I've watched it a few times previously). What I especially appreciate about the ending is the Marcels' upbeat version of 'Blue Moon' that plays, which contrasts nicely against the rather 'depressing' way the movie ends (whereas the movie starts with Bobby Vinton's more slow/soothing rendition of 'Blue Moon').

If it's on an American channel, I won't be able to catch it. I bought it on DVD though, so...that won't be much of an issue to watch it again.

In fact I wouldn't like the movie if it ended on a happier note.

The ending aside, the atmosphere was great and say what you will about the CGI, but the creatures themselves were pretty damn scary.

The transformation scene is one of the most perfectly done scenes in horror movie history as far as I'm concerned. Terrifying, and the song Landis uses in the background is a stroke of genius.
