Four short Star Trek episodes, called Short Treks, are coming this fall to CBS All Access.
During today's Star Trek: Discovery Comic-Con panel, co-creator and executive producer Alex Kurtzman announced these Short Treks. They will be released monthly starting this fall as 10-15 minute stand-alone stories. Each short aims to explore key characters and themes that fit into Star Trek: Discovery and expand the overall Star Trek Universe These Short Treks are poised to feature both new and returning actors, including Rainn Wilson, Aldis Hodge, Doug Jones and Mary Wiseman.
Wilson will reprise his role of Harry Mudd in a short he is also set to direct. Hodge will star in another as Craft, the lone human on-board a deserted ship. Doug Jones will deep dive into his character Saru's backstory as the first ever Kelpien to join Starfleet. Mary Wisemann will appear as her character Tilly as she journeys aboard the U.S.S. Discovery.
“Each episode will deliver closed-ended stories while revealing clues about what’s to come in future Star Trek: Discovery episodes," said Kurtzman. "They’ll also introduce audiences to new characters who may inhabit the larger world of Star Trek.”
Unsure where these will turn up internationally, perhaps to Netflix, however there was no word as such.
