Joe Pyne is a name I know only from Youtube. I saw Frank Zappa wipe the floor with him. It was very entertaining. Pyne was the original "shock jock" -- he died in 1970. He was reviled by critics; but he skewered guests on the far right as well as the far left. He was unique for the time. While I certainly wasn't a fan, I did listen to his daily radio program and watch his television show. None of his "descendants" are worth my time.

Kathie Lee Gifford was obnoxious enough when she co-hosted that morning show with Regis ("REEEEEJJ!!") Philbin. Then she got together with the perpetually grinning Hoda Kotb and their teaming achieved a peculiar morning TV host chemistry--basically, two winos screeching with exaggerated, apparently drunken excitement over everything. I wonder who this appealed to--possibly lonely, homebound viewers who were encouraged to swig wine along with them as they watched? It seemed to be a show for alcoholics who liked to drink in secret when the spouse/kids were at work/school.
