Never seen any of these, but the hype surrounding the new film has gotten me interested in checking them out. I own the box set, so hope to gradually work my way through the series over the next couple of weeks.
Anyway - what are your thoughts on the franchise? Good? Bad? Indifferent? Do you have a favourite? Any stinkers among the herd?

Mixed bag. First is bad. Second is good. Rest are more or less ok.

First is average, second is better, 3 and 4 are the best. Thank God for the MI series since the last really good Bond movie was Octopussy. MI fills the spy movie slot Bond no longer occupies.

generally pretty good. Even no.2 has some nice views of Sydney.

I'd say the last really good Bond movie was The Living Daylights myself, but to each his own. Thanks for the reply anyway.

I've seen the first, fourth and fifth several times. I never tire of them.
The third is still very good.
I've never really liked the second one. I watched just the one time.

It is a fantastic franchise.
2 was the worst and it wasn't bad. It was just a John Woo film.
I can never pick a favorite, but I think 3 and 4 had the most coherent story, 1 the most style

all at least good action movies, the 2nd is arguably the worst, but still entertaining
its definitely the most solid long running franchise
Rogue Nation is the only one needed to watch before Fallout. Continuity wise MI3-MI5 add to enjoyment.

(at least the first 5 are. Haven't seen the 6th yet though) Enjoy.

Franchise is ok, but binge watching it may be tedious as it gets very formulaic, low risk repetitive and predictable especially when JJ Abrams takes over as producer.
- Mission Impossible 7.5/10
- M-I 2 Cruise Control 4/10
- M-I 3 5/10 (good script and actors, but suffers from JJ Abrams)
- M-I 4 Ghost Protocol 8/10
- MI-5 Rogue Nation 7/10
- MI-6 Fallout (in theaters) 6.5/10 (ie basically a solid film, but without new ideas and just going trough the twist & turn tropes and playing it by the numbers safely).

First one is good, not a fan of 2 or 3. 4, 5, 6 are excellent

The first one is the best/most interesting. Sort of like a de-constructed action film. The others are more straight forward, but still pretty solid action films.

The series picks up with #3, and #4 is a lot of fun. Must be Simon Pegg.

The series picks up with #3, and #4 is a lot of fun. I agree, this is a rare care of a movie series getting better with each new film. Didn't really care about the first two but part 3 was ok while Ghost Protocol and Rogue Nation were both about equally good. The problem is that M:I films are all gimmicks and action and no heart or characters, so they get kind of mechanical after a while. Ethan Hunt is the only character I remember by name and even he isn't interesting. M:I 4/10 M:I 2 5/10 M:I 3 6+/10 M:I - Ghost Protocol 7+/10 M:I - Rogue Nation 7/10
