To which notable people has God spoken directly? Whenever there is a large gathering of people in my city, Bob Whetstone (a.k.a. Jesus Bob, age 70+) is there trying to spread his message of "Saved by Jesus or lost to Hell". He'll be at major sporting events, rock concerts, parades, etc. He looks like an unemployed, homeless hick with his torn sweatshirt, and mimeographed flyers. I asked him once why he did this and he said that God told him to do it. Either (A) God actually talked to him, (B) He is delusional, or (C) he is a charlatan trying to get others to follow him. In his case, I think it is (B). Google his name and click on “images”. Then there is Jimmy Swaggart who was caught with a prostitute for the 2nd time in 1992. When asked about this little tryst, Jimmy said (and I quote), "The Lord told me it's flat none of your business.". Now in Jimmy’s case, I think it is (C) and people just love to give him money. Jesse Duplantis claims to have had a conversation with God about Jesse’s jet aircraft in this youtube video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdH2DGSXjssIf God has spoken to these people, why doesn’t God speak to me? Are they better than I? Why does God choose to speak to a select few? And if there really is a God, why doesn’t God tell them how to cure cancer, or warn them about an earthquake before it happens? I’ll bet they babble about, “The Lord works in mysterious ways” So I’m starting to compile a list of notable people that claim that the Lord has spoken to them directly. They don’t have to be alive today, but they have to have claimed that God spoke to them directly.

why doesn’t God speak to me? I had the opposite question once. I asked God, "Why DO you speak to me?" He said, "Sometimes I wonder myself." Sometimes he gets sarcastic like that so I figured it's better to just drop it. By the way, I know I'm not notable or anything so you don't have to count me.

I believe "Walk by Faith, not by Sight" like Johnny Cash.
God isn't speaking to them. God may give you assurance and signs, as a way of testing your faith. If you look hard enough, with your eyes focused on God's plan/will, you will see avenues and paths. However, I don't believe God Himself is speaking to anyone.

... If you look hard enough, with your eyes focused on God's plan/will, you will see avenues and paths. ... How does one focus on God's plan? What is his plan? And if he doesn't tell me (or anyone I believe), how am I supposed to focus on it. My name is not Claire Voyant. Sometimes... ...it is hard for us to believe... ...that the good Lord had a plan. This is one of those times.

Since I am an atheist, I would say only people diagnosed with schizophrenia, and Billy Graham, who may never have been properly diagnosed.

If you look hard enough, with your eyes focused on this picture, you will see dots, even though they aren't really there. The human brain is a wonderful thing, but it didn't evolve to show us the true nature of the universe. It evolved to help us survive and pass on our genes, and if it achieves that goal in such a way as to mislead us into believing something is true when it's not, then so be it. Bottom line, when it comes to separating fact from fiction, your gut may not be the best tool for the job.
