Not directly, but they killed my friend's first born when he couldn't pay up so I had to take out the entire syndicate in a vengeful blood bath that took upwards to a decade to complete. He didn't even thank me, in fact he got pissed because he had to start using a bookie he didn't trust. That was it, I decided never to involve myself in that stuff again.

Never. I used to bet opening week of NFL, play weekly until I lost, which became week 2-3.
Then I began to accept that NFL teams are enigmas until about week 4-5 due to scheduling & surprise opponent calibre (good & bad) etc.
I simply stopped caring & ceased gambling.

I used to bet every weekend, and had something on virtually every NRL game, and several accumulators on various soccer leagues during the summer. This was on top of betting on horses.
I stopped solely because I didn’t have the time nor inclination to fully study the formlines etc and if I wanted to take random stabs in the dark - I’d go to a casino and play roulette....

Yep. Horses, dogs, AFL, NRL. What changed was my life situation (marriage, faith, geography taking me from a rural fishbowl of pubs and clubs to one of Sydney CBD musicals and restaurants, and just not having the time or spare money to continue).
It would be a lot different today with all the on line betting agencies and spot betting. I think the whole industry is turning into a rabbit hole that more and more people can't find their way out of.

I used to bet weekly on NFL, then the baseball playoffs. Now I only bet when in Vegas. The reason I stopped was financial reasons and the realization that it's nearly impossible to win longterm with the vig
