I think that Stephen King's work works best, within the confines of 70's and 80's movie adaptations.
And I stress the word, "movie."
Take the adaptation of "Christine."
In this movie, John Carpenter addresses the problems of self-panelbeating, possessed automobiles.
"Carrie" is one of the most moving horror movies of the 1970s - about high school and telekinesis.
That bucket of pig's blood was extremely uplifted.
The ending as effective a "jump-scare", as uh, anything I've seen in horror.
