m.youtube.com/watch?v=R6oPFvxIoJkThey talk about Aquaman at around the 14 minute mark. In case anyone wasn’t aware, they’re all fairly prominent YouTubers, and they all are obviously completely unaware of who Aquaman actually is. So you came here for validation that it doesn't look terrible?

You sound upset that they think it looks terrible so you came here to see if others think so also. I didn’t come here looking for people to say it looks good. I came here to see what the specific opinions on the trailer are. I’m not upset that they think it looks terrible. I‘ve always thought that these guys are all pretentious asshats. The only thing that really bothered me about the video was how they kept going on about the tired old “Lol Aquaman talks to fish” shtick. That’s about as uninspired of a critique as it gets. Seriusly, fuck off. You’re an asshole.

To say Aquaman looks "terrible," based on the SDCC trailer is just hyperbolic nonsense. I am sure Aquaman will turn out fine. That said, I find Wan's vision of Atlantis too derivative of Cameron's bioluminescent vision of Pandora. Since I have no affinity for the character, I had hoped that the setting would prove to be the draw. I'd expected a dark and mysterious vibe for Atlantis and not a psychedelic, deep-sea aquarium. The main takeaway I got from the trailer was that Wan and WB/DC are desperate to make Aquaman into a crowd pleaser (which will hopefully wash away decades of ridicule and mockery). To those who feel that Jason Momoa's bedroom eyes and dude-bro glare have suddenly and irrevocably reversed the tide of Aquaman's status as a punchline; you're mistaken. Robot Chicken, Family Guy, South Park, Entourage and even the Power Puff girls have all had their pound of Aquatic flesh in recent times. The New52 failed to revitalize the character with its near grotesque demonstrations of overcompensation. And Rebirth seems to want to remake him into an edgy outsider estranged from the superhero community and a neophyte politician come face to face with Trump's America. But, the depths of the ocean are dark and murky. The brighter tone set by Wan underscores a more fantasy tone than one rooted in science fiction. There's nothing wrong with that of course; it's a stylistic choice. I was just hoping for something a bit more credible and less fantastic.

If they went with a dark and murky aesthetic, people would’ve complained about how they’re trying too hard to be edgy and realistic, and not willing to embrace the weirdness of the source material.

People will complain regardless of what creative choices are made. I'm not complaining so much as stating my own preference. In a way, I'm glad Aquaman has laid claim to a fun, family-friendly fantasy approach. That leaves other possibilities open for Marvel's Namor. I see his Atlantis as being darker and lit from within as opposed to a shimmering, color-saturated underwater city. Wan's Atlantis is brighter than most surface cities that are actually under the sun but, I suppose that was the whole point. I actually would prefer not to see Namor's Atlantis in his first cinematic entry at all. Atlantis should be a place of legend and mystery. The problem of any portrayal with Atlantis in fiction is that once you actually see it, it becomes less mysterious and even less credible. You have to suspend too much disbelief. No one can actually have a conversation underwater. A more credible vision might have been pressurized structures that actually have air inside of them... I should stop now before I get labeled an Aquaman hater. The movie looks good. I just disagree fundamentally with some of the creative choices.

Even if you didn’t think the movie looks any good, that would be fine. The main issue I take with the video I provided is that those guys seem to be basing a good chunk of their opinions on the movie on the tired old “Aquaman is lame” meme. That’s an incredibly lazy and irritating way of judging a film.

Fair enough; however, while comic book fans may have been enjoying a "reinvented" Aquaman for the past decade, I think the general public still sees him as the but of a Family Guy or South Park joke. The Aquaman feature film will either go a long way towards ending the stigma associated with the character or, it may make it even worse. We'll see...

Like the video footage of him in the murky water is right because it's not from his point of view.

I can only assume that was the first time he was seeing it?

I looked through the comments and I haven’t seen very many of them that even say anything about the Aquaman trailer specifically. The video isn’t even primarily about that movie, so there’s that. The bottom line is that I didn’t make this thread to have people saying that the movie looks good. I made it because the statements from these guys about the movie caught my attention, so I thought I’d share them here. This is a board for discussing anything related to the DC movies, isn’t it? I don’t care what those people think of the movie. Personally, if the movie does get good reviews, I hope those guys still end up hating it, since I don’t consider their opinions to be very valuable, especially since they apparently think that “Lol Aquaman talks to fish” is a valid critique.

I'm thinking that the only outsider that can see it like they would is someone like Superman.
Wait... Is this movie ignoring Justice League or is it wrapped around Justice League?

the movie looks fine, it's just a bloated trailer, for example the shazam trailer is streamlined, easier to digest; aquaman's trailer wanted to show you spectacle, story, tone, characters..... shazam just wanted to show you tone and the character.

No clue, and my guess is that the movie isn't going to make huge demands of your brain power with regard to a timeline. It looks like a fun adventure picture in the 80s tradition. Hope it works out for all involved.

So... anyway... Aquaman is a movie now.

Then we get the scene from Justice League with her still trying to get him to be king in the air bubble. But then after Justice League he decides to go back and be king and they go on the adventure.

Full trailer vs teaser. Maybe because they waited so long to get the trailer out that they went past the teaser stage.
