No clue, and my guess is that the movie isn't going to make huge demands of your brain power with regard to a timeline. It looks like a fun adventure picture in the 80s tradition. Hope it works out for all involved. I don't know... I'm guessing the part when he sees it for the first time is before Justice League, but then he doesn't want to become king so he leaves. Then we get the scene from Justice League with her still trying to get him to be king in the air bubble. But then after Justice League he decides to go back and be king and they go on the adventure. I don't know either and truthfully, I don't care. I was just pointing out that an Atlantean seemed mighty impressed with Atlantis which runs counter to your earlier claim. Momoa deserves a win as he's come a long way as an actor and he's delivered on the most interesting version of the character I've ever read or seen.

I looked through the comments and I haven’t seen very many of them that even say anything about the Aquaman trailer specifically. The video isn’t even primarily about that movie, so there’s that. The bottom line is that I didn’t make this thread to have people saying that the movie looks good. I made it because the statements from these guys about the movie caught my attention, so I thought I’d share them here. This is a board for discussing anything related to the DC movies, isn’t it? I don’t care what those people think of the movie. Personally, if the movie does get good reviews, I hope those guys still end up hating it, since I don’t consider their opinions to be very valuable, especially since they apparently think that “Lol Aquaman talks to fish” is a valid critique. So you don't care what those guys think, but then you made a thread about what those guys think? Good on you.
So... anyway... Aquaman is a movie now.
Again, their statements caught my attention, so I thought I’d share them. When I say that I don’t care what they think, I mean that I don’t give a shit if they ultimately think the movie is bad. Their opinions on movies are worthless to me. I just figured I’d see where the people around here stand compared to these prominent YouTubers. What exactly is your game here?

the movie looks fine, it's just a bloated trailer, for example the shazam trailer is streamlined, easier to digest; aquaman's trailer wanted to show you spectacle, story, tone, characters..... shazam just wanted to show you tone and the character. Full trailer vs teaser. Maybe because they waited so long to get the trailer out that they went past the teaser stage. it's a good point

To say Aquaman looks "terrible," based on the SDCC trailer is just hyperbolic nonsense. I am sure Aquaman will turn out fine. That said, I find Wan's vision of Atlantis too derivative of Cameron's bioluminescent vision of Pandora. Since I have no affinity for the character, I had hoped that the setting would prove to be the draw. I'd expected a dark and mysterious vibe for Atlantis and not a psychedelic, deep-sea aquarium. The main takeaway I got from the trailer was that Wan and WB/DC are desperate to make Aquaman into a crowd pleaser (which will hopefully wash away decades of ridicule and mockery). To those who feel that Jason Momoa's bedroom eyes and dude-bro glare have suddenly and irrevocably reversed the tide of Aquaman's status as a punchline; you're mistaken. Robot Chicken, Family Guy, South Park, Entourage and even the Power Puff girls have all had their pound of Aquatic flesh in recent times. The New52 failed to revitalize the character with its near grotesque demonstrations of overcompensation. And Rebirth seems to want to remake him into an edgy outsider estranged from the superhero community and a neophyte politician come face to face with Trump's America.I disagree about the New 52. True, his representation in Justice League was all over the place, but his actual comics run, particularly the first series by Geoff Johns, were very good and one of the best Aquaman arcs ever. Rebirth I have been enjoying, but again, mainly through his actual title and not his appearances elsewhere. They are keeping focused on the Arthurian "Heavy is the Head that wears the crown" concept and it has worked well. Along with fleshing out Atlantean society very well.

When you really stop to think about it, is there anyway of portraying Aquaman as anything other than a joke without getting accusations of overcompensating?

Read "The Trench" The Trench at ComixologyI actually have read a fair amount of the New 52 Aquaman comics. They’re pretty much the entire reason why I don’t view Aquaman as a joke, since I had never read any of his prior comics. There still have been some accusations leveled against those comics regarding how they supposedly try too hard to make the character look like a badass, though. Then again, the New 52 in general doesn’t exactly have a great reputation, so that probably doesn’t help.

Fair enough, I acknowledge that I may be in the minority when it comes to my opinion of the New 52 version of the character. That said, I don't believe New 52 was universally accepted by the fans in general (or else we would not have needed a Rebirth). The character does not appear to be able to create his own destiny. He is burdened with being a head of state, and his status as a founding member of the JL is being undercut by out-of-character jealousy of the Trinity. I think Aquaman is overdue for a journey of self-discovery. He too reactionary and defensive in either iteration of the character. The movie version seems to be about a man who feels love for his community and has a stronger sense of self.

I'm a fan of Ralph and YourMovieSucks, even if I don't always agree with them. Especially when it comes to superhero movies.
This is not one of those times. I think the movie looks like crap as well, though not necessarily for the reasons they said. I was personally all onboard (hey-o) for a Dathraqui Aquaman, but the more I see of him, the less I like him. He's not the hardass I was expecting from images and that initial JL trailer so much as a Thor-ish dudebro. Meh.

I’m certainly not going to rip on you for expressing your opinion, but out of curiosity, are you saying you would’ve preferred a more serious Arthur Curry? I imagine that would’ve gotten even more ridicule from these guys.

But they didn't even like Black Panther, so they're all-in on superhero movies needing to be laugh a minute fun right now. I liked the pissed off, chip on his shoulder Aquamam we saw in that intitial JL trailer before he started yahooing and my manning all over the place.
