Last night I saw something which I have never seen before -- an atheist in a tv ad. The major networks, ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox are refusing to air the ad, but other channels have chosen to do so. The ad was recorded over a year ago and it has taken this long to start airing nationally. It seems the major networks object to the final sentence. I'm sure it will create a stir, as intended, especially in the Bible Belt.
"Hi, I'm Ron Reagan, an unabashed atheist, and I'm alarmed by the intrusion of religion into our secular government. That's why I'm asking you to support the Freedom From Religion Foundation, the nation's largest and most effective association of atheists and agnostics, working to keep state and church separate, just like our Founding Fathers intended. Please support the Freedom From Religion Foundation. Ron Reagan, lifelong atheist, not afraid of burning in hell."
For those who don't know, Ron Reagan is the son of a former president, Ronald Reagan.

It's fairly adversarial and pointless, but it's silly to ban it solely on it being an atheist ad. Adversarial and pointless is that organization's M.O. I imagine it has more to do with the message that ends condescendingly as if that is the issue when it has nothing to do with separation of church and state which is clearly something many non-atheists agree with.

I think the purpose is to increase donations from like-minded individuals. I agree the end is condescending and unnecessary, but I think it's designed to generate free publicity (maybe from social media) in furtherance of increasing donations.

He stuck that last line in there, to prove he's a 60 year old troll with the same mentality as the trolls on this board.

Wouldn't they know an atheist isn't scared of hell already?
The networks ran at least one other ad from them on national TV without incident so I'm just saying that it was likely due to tone over message.
They probably shouldn't take it personally. I think it's a good idea for the networks to run it just to see the reaction.

Why should we care? CoolJGS said all presidents are killers. Reagan was no piker in that respect. His son is a campaigning atheist - so what?

But thanks for bumping my thread. I was just reading about your latest username, Shakuntala Devi. I see where she was an exceptionally intelligent woman who wrote a book which calls for "full and complete acceptance—not tolerance and sympathy" for homosexuals. I bet the gay and lesbian community appreciates your support.

How typical of you to not give a monkeys about her achievements, after all the achievements of a woman just don't register with men like you, but to care only about whether homosexuals approve of her.

He didn't mention whether homosexuals approve of her, he said SHE approves of homosexuals, and called for "full and complete acceptance—not tolerance and sympathy" for them in her book. Read a little more carefully, and you wont miss the point.

Monkeys? I have no monkeys to give to anyone. But I did win $10 after betting someone I could get you to change your username. Well done!

How very childish. Face it, aside from homosexuality you don't know what she did, do you?
