From war-loathing Doctor Hawkeye Pierce in M*A*S*H to an arrogant TV director in Crimes and Misdemeanors to an arrogant medical researcher in And the Band Played On, he has been an amazing actor and a generally good human. I am glad he seems to be living well in spite of the disease. He is one of my favorite actors.
He also hosted PBS' "Scientific American Frontiers" for 13 years and now teaches acting techniques to scientists and entrepreneurs to help them connect better with their audiences. The ability to engage with people clearly, he says, is the key to greater understanding for everyone.
