Lawrence of Arabia - 15/10 - easily my favourite movie of all time, have seen it nearly 100 times, but many of those were the "short" 190 minute pre-restoration. Kwai - 10/10 Zhivago - 9/10 Ryan's Daughter - 8/10

Lawrence of Arabia is only one of the greatest movies ever made.
But The Bridge on the River Kwai is a very fine film too.

Really, that's a ridiculous number -- I've only watched it about 60 times myself.

nutsberryfarm 🏜 Use the biggest screen available and have refreshing cool beverages handy. The air conditioning in the theater I saw it in had failed .. in August... and I remember being so thirsty watching that movie. You are in for a visual treat even if the politics make your eyes roll back in your head with boredom. If you also like history and politics, no problem !

I recorded it onto my betamax (yes, a looong time ago) and watched it 50 times in the next 18 months or so. I used to be able to quote the whole movie pre-restoration.

How I felt in a GG many years ago when I had Claude Rains as the shooter of Conrad Veidt in Casablanca......

I love trivia night at the pub, but I rarely venture out these days. GG compensates.

Kwai - 10/10 Zhivago - 9/10 Ryan's Daughter - 8/10 Recently I have been watching movies based on what members of Classic Cinema board suggest or praise. I have seen Bridge of the River Kwai and rated that very highly. So given your immense praise for Lawrence of Arabia I am going to see it soon.
I did see this movie may when I was 8 or 9 years old but I hardly understood English language then and certainly do not remember anything.

As much as I love the cast, I've never warmed to A Passage to India. It might not even make my top 10 Lean movies. It's one of those movies I feel I should love (as it incorporates much of what I like in a movie) but don't.

Brief Encounter and Oliver Twist would be my favourite non-epic Leans. On previous threads about Lean there have been many who named Great Expectations as their favourite of his films.

SOUND BARRIER is pretty high up there in the favorite Lean list.

I saw LAWRENCE OF ARABIA twice in 1962. After seeing it in the drive-in, my parents thought a trip to the real theater was needed, so I saw it again. I was only 8 years old and that was not a common experience for me. My parents took us to the drive-in every weekend because kids under 12 were free or it was $1.50 a car. Years later I saw the restored print at the Newport Beach Edwards Big Cinema on their massive screen.
Tried watching it a few weeks ago on FilmStruck, but it isn't the same on my iPad.😝
It is hard to pick a favorite Lean, but since I’m a girl, it would probably be BRIEF ENCOUNTER, but I also like BREAKING THE SOUND BARRIER.
