I have to confess I like him - and I think he has done a lot of good for the english system and domestic game.
His results have been good considering his budgets . OK picking no leaders is very odd - Its as if he wants to be the leader on and of the pitch - He doesnt want a player that is a true captain that affects the games that really matter.
Thats his problem - he needed an alderword, a seaman, a schemical, a totti, a kompany, a john terry, a deli ali, a maldini, keane or a moore - etc
but he never goes for players in that mould - does he row with them?
does he want no one to tell him maybe the team should do something else!!
top managers listen and allow captains and even some non captains input in to what is going on.
asernal play nice - but they have only wengers spine - and his spine isnt on the pitch.

I like him.
I feel a bit sorry for him, but then you have to put it into perspective, he is a very wealthy man who could walk away at any point and still leave with some kind of legacy intact. There are far more deserving cases for sympathy in the world. Although the criticism and abuse he is getting still must hurt him, I don't care how thick skinned you are or how much money you have, you could never be completely unaffected by it.

He was integral in transforming the English game but I'm sorry, that game has long since left him behind.
He simply never moved on.

I'm sort of mixed,
On one hand I respect him that he doesn't let loose with money bringing the club into debt without a care in the world like other managers, in that sense I really do wish there were more managers like Wenger
On the other hand, he has to choose between spending more money to really compete and win major trophies against the other top teams or to please the shareholders (who have no deep love for the club) financially, which is it because it can't be both

It's crossing over into personal territory for fans because of perceptions, he seems to be just stubbornly clinging on with no regard for the club or its future so it makes him look really bad, as a person he's really not bad or anything but he's just fiercely stubborn and clearly doesn't know when to let go.
The problem is, the longer he stays, the more it's made people resent him for it.

my concern here is the board are not really fans - and just like making a profit - Wenger obligees and has made top 4 after top 4 with limited spend on transfers and wages. but winning stuff is secondary.
football clubs should be more fiscally responsible and shouldn't be held to ransom just because they need an x or y type of player - but profits shouldn't ne a long term objective - yes turnover should be a priority as should the balance sheet(assets) expanding) -
Players shouldn't claim all the profits over the owners either - They should be put back in to youth level and local communities - especially but not exclusively in football.
