Hello everyone, If the past week is any indication, I'm getting a pretty good idea of which boards should remain and which of them should not. I believe there's no longer a need to keep them exactly as they are on IMDb. So just a heads up: What I have on my agenda for tomorrow evening is to reorganize the forums into a more comfortable layout. I'll probably begin by moving the less active boards into a section of their own just to get them out of the way without immediately removing them. After that, I'll see what I can do about consolidating some of the categories into sub-forums to clean up the home page a little bit. Once I get that done, I'll add some of the more popularly requested boards. Thank you all for your patience and understanding as I slowly but surely fine-tune this place. -John ps. Don't worry, all you yellow theme lovers; I see your complaints and I will eventually turn down the brightness a bit.

Thanks for all the effort, John. My take is that there are too many boards here. Just personally, I'm not into games and don't go to a film site to talk fashion or politics or any of the other topics you have. If it were me,--and mean no offense by this--I'd keep the number of boards within the forum to a number close to where the IMDB was a dozen years ago or more. Lean and mean (but not nasty mean), with forums that are designed for people who have things to say, to one another, in general, rather than who want to check in or simply gush over something, or complain, as the case may be. I'd discourage sandbox/soapbox type boards, as they "invite" conflict and, especially, flaming. Could it be that if we didn't have those boards, with no place to rant, that people would settle down and just engage in film and TV talk? I think so. The Triffid-like expansion of the IMDB message boards in my humble opinion sowed the seed of their destruction.

Maybe, or people who enjoy that sort of thing may take their rants to an inappropriate board where people are getting along nicely and having discussions. It's hard to say until it happens. I think trolls and flamers are going to be anywhere that there's an open forum. There's no getting away from it, it's just something we have to deal with when it happens. I don't think a lack of an appropriate board will cause them to move on. Moving on to the OP, I hope you decide to keep the games boards. I know its not everyone's thing but they have been running nicely and the people who use them really enjoy the games. Thanks for all the hard work you're doing here, I really enjoy this forum

Thanks for all the hard work you're doing here, I really enjoy this forum I'll probably consolidate them into their own category. I think it's weird that they're under Trivia. You're most welcome. Thanks for being here!

Thanks for all your effort and hard work. Could I please suggest— if you haven't already thought of it—that when we click on a members recent posts, just to show the heading of the posts they have done and not the replies that have gone with it. This would make it easier to scroll down the page to see what they have posted on and the subjects they are interested in. I suppose this is in keeping with a similar IMDB format, when you click on the username. Also perhaps giving more characters for the user names and capitals as well. Good luck with the site, Toasted Cheese Thanks, and you're welcome! When I click on recent posts on a member's profile page, all I get are the posts themselves and not the replies to those posts. Are you seeing something different, or are you suggesting that only the subject lines should show?

Thanks again, John, for the beautiful board you've created for us. One suggestion, before making any wholesale changes, you probably should wait until after Feb 20 to see the full amount of traffic to start. My main board is the Food & Drink board and most of the regulars there are saying that they won't worry about moving until after IMDb shuts down for good. I suspect that that's the case on most of the other boards as well.

While the original IMDb had 20+ years to gather together boards for virtually every movie, TV show and episode, and actor, this site is still in infancy and has hardly yet reached the teething stage. To expect a copycat IMDb is unrealistic. However main boards could be set up such as MOVIES, TV, with genre sub-boards such as WESTERNS, MUSICALS, CRIME & THRILLERS, PERIOD, HISTORICAL, ROMANCE, SCI-FI, or whatever. A separate main board for ACTORS.
Individual Titles and Names of Movies, TV shows, and Actors could then be posted by we the users under these sub-boards, and thus gradually create proper discussion boards for each. The current sections for Trivia and Games etc could be maintained, but kept separate from Main Discussion boards. Navigation and search facilities would be required of course.
There is already a "Genre" section, but I feel that a section desginated specifically for discussions on individual movies etc are required.
Would this be possible?

I always thought it was a bad idea that they split the music boards into genres. None of the music boards, including Music General, ever got enough traffic to justify that. Rather, all of the music boards, again including Music General, were always relatively slow. Part of the reason for the split was that fans of other genres, such as classical, were complaining that Music General talked about popular music the vast majority of the time, but even though the classical board was the most active of the offshoots, it was so slow that one could easily keep up with it by only checking it once every week or two. In my opinion it would be better to just have one music board, with music of any sort the subject matter.

But for me there was a time when Music General on the IMDb was so active that I avoided it and confined myself to the Rock board. It was only when Music General slowed to a more manageable (for me) pace, that I started posting there in addition to the Rock board. I'm sure that for now IMDb v2.0 can manage with only a Music General board. But who can say what the future may bring?

Sandbox/Watercooler boards help CAN help keep trolls, etc, from moving from other parts of the boards. We created a spam forum at Idolforums where post didn't count and spam post went down almost 50% in other parts of the board. You need these type of boards to give members a place to discuss things.

First of John, thank you for starting these boards. Particularly in view of the up coming demise of the IMDb boards.
Over time, these boards will evolve and you will have time to aid that evolution. While that is happening we have to be patient. It will be interesting to see how this progresses over the next few years.
What ever happens. I wish you the very best in this endeavour.

From what I just checked on it seems,
Shop Talk could go completely or be reduced to one category. Anime and Animation could be combined. Technology could go or be reduced to one category. And dare I say it but the women in film board could go as well.

I'd love an International Politics board. Anything not about the US just got lost in the mix on the Politics board.

Good job Admin. ICB was lost in "Around the world" group. Putting it under more important "Movies category" is much better and deserving. [Cheers].
