Pros - Matthew McConaughey watching years of video messages from his son. Strong emotional punch right there. Impressive visual effects and its depiction of space travel Like Hoyte van Hoytema's cinematography on Dunkirk, it's visually stunning throughout. The docking sequence with that terrific Hans Zimmer score. I want a TARS robot buddy.
Cons- Why is Matt Damon here? The first 45 minutes are pretty disposable. Can feel a bit pretentious at times. "Murph!" According to another film website, which shall not be named, Murph's name is said 79 times in the film. "Love is the one thing we're capable of perceiving that transcends dimensions of time and space." - Ugh.

Yeah that pretty much gets to the heart of the matter. It's a half hour too long (a common Nolan issue). I caught this on television a while back expecting to hate it (since everyone else apparently does). It's fine, just a big homage to those slow paced sci-fi movies of the 60s and 70s. It's a wonder no one talks about TARS. Those robots were awesome.

Do you have a problem with Matt Damon specifically or the character?

Oh god I wanted to vomit in my popcorn when I 1st heard those lines. No clue what Nolan was thinking keeping that in the film . This is the only Nolan that I don't particularly like (own the rest of his films on blu ray or dvd) . I will say that some of the space sequences are jaw dropping (esp when I saw it in IMAX). And that robot was pretty cool too. 5/10

Pros: First major sci-fi movie to use time-relativity as a major plot point Overall good use of hard sci-fi concepts
Cons: Completely unbelievable that NASA turns over their critical project mission to some guy who just stumbles across it Final scene tries to explain in words what '2001" was able to convey better with just images clunky robot design too much standard Hollywood sentimentality injected I totally guessed the twist

Overall I really liked this movie.
However, I wished they visited more planets and I could not get into the score which detracted from the experience since it was so loud.

Cons:
Writing is a bit contrived in respect to why they need to leave the planet. The whole reason why they go to Millers planet is flawed. The scientists dont act how scientists would act. There are character inconsistencies with their behaviour, especially Murph and why she resents Cooper as an adult.
Pros Fantastic visuals Intense final act Amazing action with score (docking scene) Murph-Cooper chemistry was on point and believable Lots of well directed and acted emotional scenes Interesting from beginning to end even though its long runtime

He resented that he left and as time went on and it looked less likely he would come back, it became ingrained. Basically, he lied to her and chose the mission over her.
The Miller planet one is a flaw from a purely pragmatic sense which I think is very much intentional. The movie spends a great deal of time showing the inherent conflict between scientific research and decisions based on emotion. The entire movie is about that imo until the two can merge to create a solution.
Even if the planet had extreme time dilation, it was closest, it had a signal, and if they got in and out, based on Plan A, it could still be a planet that could be settled...Although unlikely to ever leave.

Pro - Probably the finest score since LOTR.
Con - Total bs cop-out closed loophole - I want to explore space, not end up in a f'n bookcase.

Basically, he lied to her and chose the mission over her. That would be fine and make sense however she grows up to become a physicist working for Dr Brand at NASA. She is in a perfect situation to understand all about the Lazarus mission and why her dad had to leave and wasnt sure when he was coming back (since she understood relativity by then). If she became an uneducated farmer like her brother, it would make sense why she'd still hate Cooper because she wont have been briefed on the mission. [/p]

[/quote] Ye I can excuse the Miller planet. I guess its from a scientific point of view why Id have a problem with it. They should have known prior before they landed that the planet had giant tidal waves, but that does destroy the surprise and shock element.

Pros:
That score
McConaughey, who deserved another Oscar nod for that scene you mentioned alone
The ocean planet where time is slowed down was pretty cool
Nice visuals, although coming out after Gravity was unfortunate
Cons:
Hey McConaughey, you have TWO kids you know. He didn't give a single f**k about his son
Hathaway's soliloquies on love
Fine movie overall, but I don't think it added up to much like Nolan's other films (TDKR notwithstanding)
