Watching McNamara confess his naivety and hubris never appealed to me. He got 58000 of my generation killed for nothing. Better he be hanged.

Watching McNamara confess his naivety and hubris never appealed to me. He got 58000 of my generation killed for nothing. Better he be hanged. And Kissinger? Nixon? Johnson?
Recently watched the Ken Burns Vietnam documentary. It dropped a piece of information I was unaware of - During his 1968 presidential run, Nixon's campaign secretly contacted the South Vietnamese government to tell them to avoid peace talks scheduled with the North and the U.S.
Johnson was aware of this, we even hear a recorded conversation with him and Nixon who denies it. However, Johnson had to keep his mouth because it would mean having to revealed the offices were bugged in the first place to gain knowledge of them contacting the South Vietnamese government.

Johnson yes.
Nixon and Kissinger inherited a foolish, unwinnable war and greatly reduced US troops levels and casualties in 2 years. All GIs were out a little over 4 years after Nixon was sworn in.

have it on DVD, was not too impressed though it's an interesting life and solid filmmaking. Glass' score was pretty good.
