Highly underrated actor. I love his countless guest appearances on classic TV shows. Some other movies he was in are Joe Kidd, and Queen of Blood. That's an excellent fight scene posted in the OP. To me classic stuff like that is more realistic than the over choreagraphed stuff you see sometimes these days. 'Queen Of Blood' (1966) was one of the key genre influences on Ridley Scott's 'Alien' (1979) along with 'It! The Terror From Beyond Space' (1958) and 'Planet Of The Vampires' (1965). I'm surprised I am not the only one here who has seen/remembers Queen of Blood.

I second the opinion of John in THE CARDINAL. It is one of the Great films few people seem to have seen. I owned it on VHS and DVD. It is a thinking person's film. and I third that opinion -- wait a minute, I was the first.
Love this film -- one of Preminger's best. I watch it at least once a year.
The scene of young curate Tom Tryon and pastor Cecil Kellaway was shot just down the road at St. John's Church in Stamford, Connecticut.Favourite part as I RECALL (it's been a while) - Stephen Fermoyle: And what will I learn from Father Halley? Cardinal Glennon: Humility.

What's also sad is that like with Christopher Lee, it is a reminder of the end of an era where you can speak of someone who was in a ton of films that were outside of Hollywood big leagues.
The obit mentions Enter the Dragon and Nightmare on Elm Street--he did so much more!
He turned up in some weird 1960s British film as a lab assistant involving an alien who was kidnapping women.
And his arm scene in Battle Beyond the Stars--what a pro--he could have played it as camp but didn't.
Cayman: Sador! This is Cayman of the Lambda Zone. Turn around, you overaged degenerate, and we'll bump heads!
Sador: Of what form are you, Cayman?
Cayman: I am of the Lazuli.
Sador: I thought I had the honor of making that form extinct, long ago! I won't fail this time! Here I come, Cayman of the Lambda Zone!

I'm surprised I am not the only one here who has seen/remembers Queen of Blood. It's still one of my favorites of all time, even after I found out it was mostly ripped off from a Russian film called "A Dream Come True" and Saxon referred to it as a paycheck when he needed it.

One of the most familiar actors of all time, he did tons of famous movies and TV guest spots. He will be missed. He was in two of the greatest and most influential horror movies of modern times, Black Christmas (1974) and A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984). All of the John Saxon Movies I've Seen: A Star Is Born (1954) The Unforgiven Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation Joe Kidd Enter the Dragon Black Christmas (1974) The Glove The Electric Horseman Battle Beyond the Stars Blood Beach A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors Beverly Hills Cop III Wes Craven's New Nightmare From Dusk Till Dawn

I thoroughly enjoyed SUMMER LOVE recently, in which he was led astray at summer camp by foxy rich girl Jill St John. The cast wear bathing suits for a good quarter of the movie.
