Agreed. but... not many movies have a atmosphere that stands out (without taking a rough count I would guess there is probably less than 20 movies for me that have a strong atmosphere that I also think are stand out movies straight up). also, even when a movie looks solid visually does not automatically mean it has a solid atmosphere. in fact, at least for me... it's easier for a movie to look good then have a solid atmosphere that stands out.

hell, some movies I score a 7/10 are better than some movies I score a 10/10 in terms of atmosphere. even though in terms of the movie straight up I like the 10/10 movie more than the 7/10 movie, obviously.

so basically... while I agree with you in that atmosphere can help boost things, atmosphere is not TOO much of a factor for movies in general for me because there is so few movies with a strong atmosphere.
