Average musicians?!!! How so, Toasted Cheese? They weren't one hit wonders, but I suppose I mean they are still a part of the popish milieu, that was designed and operates with a more simplistic approach. It's creative, but not exactly music art. Some of their songs were just downright cheesy, ala Nina Pretty Ballerina and When I Kissed The Teacher. Yes, they put out some cheesy songs for sure (especially their first album, RING RING), but that's exactly what I meant when I said "the least pretense". And they are definitely "popish", and maybe it's their lack of any noticeable edge that turn some people off, but they are so charming and spirited and their songs almost always make me feel good if I'm feeling low and great if I'm already feeling good. As far as "art" goes, I think the emotional response should be the most relevant consideration, and what ABBA evokes is more purely emotional than any other music group I know. Though upon first hearing them, they are probably not what one might call "sophisticated".

What a hilarious, cheap and useless song that is and it gets stuck right in ones head.
Yes, the music is more in spirit of giving and perking one up for the most part and when I mentioned about music art, I was implying a lack of sophistication. No point in getting all snobbish about ABBA though, because they were a fun and delightful group to listen too . Now, if you would excuse me, I am just going to fill my brandy balloon, put on my beret and light up a cigar while I slink into my armchair and listen to some Mozart.
