interpretations of different religious texts and verses, which sect has the correct interpretation and how all this can be incorporated into the reality of an increasingly scientific body of knowledge yet still be considered the word of god?
I noticed a thread that went into deep analysis of what a certain verse in Ezekiel meant and whether that prophecy was fulfilled or not. Another thread concerned conversion from one Abrahamic religion to another. What if no one had to debate on how many angels can dance on the head of a pin and how many levels of hell there are?
We may debate the theists here, trying to encourage them to embrace reason and logic, but mostly our efforts fall on deaf ears. What improvements could be made in the real world if religion didn't eat up so much time and so many resources?
Edit: I know I've mentioned one of the things I do; volunteer time to bottle-feed baby kittens that otherwise would die, work towards ethical treatment of all animals and of course my environmental concerns.

Clarification: for atheists, agnostics and apatheists. You religious folks have your own threads.

I suspect that publicly discussing religion vs atheism helps provide atheists a sense of community. Many atheists come from families of theists. Many have friends who are mostly theists. Surveys routinely show that majorities of the public hold atheists in very low regard in many countries. So on the religious front, many atheists may feel under siege in their daily lives.
What may appear on the surface merely to be "debating theists" may in fact be something much richer than that in actuality.

currently in the middle of a fund raiser for a children's hospital.
at this precise moment, gleefully jumping up and down after winning a three hundred dollar bingo at one of our local indian casinos. part of the proceeds to go to the aforementioned fund raiser.
and last but not least, contemplating all manner of things known and wished for. of course, i've been doing this for over a half a century and it becomes second nature or a part of every day stuff.

It does, doesn't it? I've been involved my whole adult life in animal issues, and the later part of my life for environmental issues and world health issues. I can't imagine not being involved.

If you choose to follow a religion, you are not an atheist. Non-religious participation only. Start your own thread if you want to include people who are religious, spiritual, believe in higher powers, ghosts, demons, etc. This is for people who live in the here-and-now. Again, you theists have your own threads.

Deaf ears are not exclusive to theists, and atheists do not have a monopoly on reason and logic. i'd hang reason and logic on a cross if that would make spock the boss. instead of some indian giver who decided after he made man he didn't like the taste of barbecued liver...

What do you do with your time here on Earth?

I understand your question was intended for the nonreligious, but this is an open forum, anyone of any religious views should be allowed to participate in whatever thread they want.

I would like to hear just the atheist's responses. Another thread can be started by you, if you would like. I'm asking a specific question of a specific group. If I started a thread about our favorite colors, would you post about your favorite food?

That analogy doesn't really work. If you were asking a question about atheism, and for some reason people were talking about a a pastrami sandwich, that would be more analogous to your example. As far as I can tell everyone here is talking about your OP.
