I really like Benintendi. Looks like a real naturally polished hitter.

yeah. what happened with travis shaw? he was so good early on last year at third. i think he flamed out or something. the sox have a loaded outfield though. i hoped that when papi left, they would calm down for a while, but then they signed chris sale. they just keep coming up with prime FA and the yankees are doing nothing!

Not to nitpick, but they didn't sign Sale, they traded the #1 overall prospect in Yoan Moncada, and top pitching prospect Michael Kopech (and 3 others) for him. And come on, if you're back to being a Yankees fan this year you know exactly what they're doing and it's a smart play. They're shedding those dead weight contracts, letting their prospects get their feet wet, and they'll fill holes and grab a big name in next year's pool. The list of possible FAs for next year is quite enticing: Bryce Harper, Matt Harvey, Josh Donaldson, Manny Machado, Charlie Blackmon, Adam Jones, Elvis Andrus (can opt out), Carlos Carrasco, Clayton Kershaw (can opt out), Dallas Keuchel are just some of the names off the top of my head who will be available. You can't tell me that no less than 2 of these guys will be Yankees in 2018.

Thornburg has also been hurting. Another Carson Smith? is carson better yet? I'm not sure. I forgot about him until today. Red Sox didn't give up much for him, and haven't got much in return. If Smith comes back, Thorny Thornburg pitches like he did in Wisconsin, Joe Kell repeats what he did down the stretch and Kimbrel is Kimbrel, the Red Sox will be tough to score against. I seen a top prospect list. If the Sox hadn't made any trades, they would have had four of the top six. Benintendi, Moncada, Manuel Margot (traded for Kimbrel) and Michael Kopech. Ben Cherington was a poor man to run a MLB team, but the bastard could build a farm system. Under the radar prospect Sam Travis is hitting the living bejezzus out of the ball this spring. He could push Moreland off from 1st or be insurance for The Panda at 3rd. 12 days!!!!!!!!

Tampa looks to be bringing up the rear but they have a nice 1-4 rotation. If Longoria, Kiermaier and Souza have great years, the other teams falter and they make some good moves during the season, they could shock.

I would never accuse you of being a bandwagoner But you follow baseball enough to know what the Yankees are doing. Makes zero sense for them to bring in a high-price FA right now, especially in a thin market. A few of those guys will get extensions, sure, but the majority of them will want to test the FA waters. I'd imagine a Kershaw deal would get worked out (if you're the Dodgers, you simply cannot let that guy get away, no matter what it costs). The best pitcher on the planet is an invaluable commodity. I'd imagine Harper will be gone, can't see the Nats affording him given what they've spent in recent years but I could be wrong and Yankee Stadium just seems like such a perfect fit for him and the team. With that pussified right field that turned Johnny Damon into a power threat and saw Curtis Granderson swat 40 HRs in back to back years, Harper is tailor made for it. As for the White Sox they didn't get a good deal for Sale. They got a great deal. Once the Nats refused to include Trea Turner in the deal (smart on their part given what the Nats already have in the rotation), the Sox turned to the Red Sox. Moncada flip flops between #1 and #2 on all top prospect lists and he seems not only ready to make the jump to the big show (although the Sox are wisely holding him back at AAA for now) but be an effective impact bat. He's only 21 and the sky's the limit for him. Michael Kopech isn't as far along the development chart as Moncada, but he's only 20. Give him 2-3 to hone his poise and command and the Sox have a great nucleus, along with Lucas Giolito. I love guys like Adam Eaton and it's a good addition for the Nats, but they gave up their top pitching prospect in Giolito to nab him. The Sox won't be great this year but they have tremendous building blocks to work with, among the best in the game right now.

Could have got Cole Hamels for Blake Swihart. Dolt.

Could have got Cole Hamels for Blake Swihart. Dolt. True, I never thought of it that way regarding Moncada. Still a great deal for both teams. The White Sox get future building blocks, the Red Sox put themselves in prime position to compete with the AL Pennant. That drives me nuts with Sandy Alderson a bit, although he did bite the bullet and trade Michael Fulmer for Cespedes back in 2015. Fulmer looks like the real deal but Cespedes has been a godsend. But I remember back in the day when the Mets would just never trade their prospects, no matter who wanted them, only to turn around at the trade deadline when they had no realistic shot at the playoffs and dump their prospects for dogshit. Lastings Milledge and Scott Kazmir in particular come to mind. Bloody hell, every team under the sun wanted Milledge and no matter what the offer, the Mets would turn it down. He turned out to be a massive bust. But then they turn around and trade Scott Kazmir when they're treading water in 2004 for.....Victor Zambrano!!! Gross. At least Milledge came out with this sweet single!: Bend Ya Knees
