In Kiss Me Deadly (1955) dir: Robert Aldrich, another Private Investigator, Mike Hammer (Ralph Meeker), does not know who or what he is looking for, or why (a classic Film Noir situation). Eventually the trail leads to Dr. G.E. Soberin (Albert Dekker) but by then it is too late. Here Soberin is on the left. Don't open the big black case, guys!

I always wanted to slap Dan Duryea: Do you want to challenge him to a duel? Otherwise, a punch on the nose or to the jaw is the manly thing to do. Can you imagine John Wayne slapping another man? Mind you, George C Scott did it.

Mind you, George C Scott did it. Dan Duryea: I think it was the straw boater hat, that sarcastic whining voice and the way he used to slap women around. He did not deserve more manly correction. (I just listened to a commentary track for The Woman in the Window. He was, of course, a nice guy. He relished playing the villain).
