Noah is the biggest fib ever. Why would anyone believe the rest of a book written by liars? A lot of them are insects. God, as Haldane observed, is inordinately fond of beetles.
He is also fond of mass extinctions too (He admitting responsibility for natural evil at least in Isiah), of which there have been two or three widespread ones down the millennia, not including the purported flood.

Noah is the biggest fib ever. Why would anyone believe the rest of a book written by liars? A lot of them are insects Some of them are massive... Fit a pair of blue whales in a suitably sized tank on yer ark there Noah. All animals alive today have to have been on the ark, a boat the size of just one and a half football pitches... That's 8.7 million animals of all sizes, X2. Plus enough food for all of them for a year and ten days. The blue whales alone will eat 80 million krill a day. That's a store of 3 trillion krill just to feed they two.

Creatures that live in water wouldn't necessarily need to be rescued from a deluge. Giant terrestrial dinosaurs, on the other hand, ... Imagine a couple of argentinosaurs onboard with some Supersauri and T. rex's.

God was undoing creation, nothing was spared.

I'm not claiming the Noah story is real, but there is something that needs to be considered when it comes to that 8.7 million number. Early man did not classify animals to the same degree we do (break them into different species based on differences as small as we use to categorize). Surely they didn't name 10s of 1000s of different fish or maybe close to a million different types of insects.

The fact is that I have no problems with scientific inaccuracies in holy books. But in this case there is no allegory involved. The intention of the writers is to say that all species were saved by Noah who carried them on his arc. That's the thing about allegory, it's open to interpretation. I find a god that feels he fucked up so bad he needs to wipe every human except a small family that's gonna carry the planet's future livestock the figurative and literal big picture in the story.
