No surprise here of course. I mean that cash cow isn't going to milk itself. "I will say we have resolved the future of the franchise and believe me it's an incredibly bright future. I think where it's going will be the continuation of what the fans really wanted since T2. We have something this year that we will be announcing for the franchise. It's something we're incredibly excited about and we think is the direction it needs to head." movieweb.com/terminator-reboot-movie-2017-announcement/Sounds to me like they want to make some sequel that continues directly from T2 or something like that. I don't think that should happen since T2 ended well and should have stopped there. And I can't stand people acting like if James Cameron is involved then that means all will be right and perfect. If 1991 James Cameron were involved, I'd be interested. But I'm not interested if the James Cameron of today is involved since he's clearly moved on from Terminator and cares more about Avatar.

I thought T3 was great, minus about 15 minutes at the start of the film.

They should have just stopped after the last movie.

How many more times do they have to fail before they understand that no one wants another Terminator film?

namedropping T2 isn't buying those people any cred at this point.

Some people just want to watch the world burn.
I mean I want it to be good, but I don't think it will be. They've not been lucky with sequels (I liked T3, hated Salvation, and kind of enjoyed Genysis). The timeline is super complicated now and I hope whatever story they've come up with can either make sense within it or dismiss it entirely and obviously. Still...just...man, how about something new? Even in the same universe.
"Creed" did this fairly well I thought...how about a Reese movie? Or a weird art house flick that focuses on the woman who was crying in front of the burning TV from T2? Or a rom-com about Todd and Janelle from T2? Or a "Big Lebowski" style character study on the homeless man who just wanted his pants back.

personally... i just can't see that series returning to the level of praise/popularity that the first two movies had. if it does ill be surprised. them1ghtyhumphYeah, it's actually my 2nd favorite of the series behind the first movie and within my Top 61 movies in general. definitely quite underrated to say the least. Jan El SeñorSeriously? ; but assuming your serious... while i think it's quite underrated, it's not quite my favorite even though it's close as i prefer the series like this... 1.T1 - 8.5-9/10 (within my Top 29 movies) 2.T3 - 8/10 (within my Top 61 movies) 3.T5 - 6-6.5/10 (within my Top 244 movies) 4.T2 - 6/10 (this used to be a 10/10 for me but i simply do not enjoy it as much as i once did as it went from a 10 to a 6 on July 3rd 2016 for me(i re-watched the first movie this same day and that remains top notch)) 5.T4 - 5/10 (Thumbs Down) in fact, T3 is only one of twenty movies that have a average score of 6.4/10 or less on IMDb that i scored a 7 or higher. but it appears we are in the minority but i never heard someone make a claim it was their #1 movie of the Terminator franchise til now even though i have heard some people on the official IMDb forums a while ago say it's underrated etc.

I actually also think T3 is underrated. I still prefer the first 2, but I really like it. I prefer to pretend like Salvation and Genysys never happened

I thought Genysis was better than part 3. Salvation was easily the worst.

I havent seen Genisys yet. I'll have to watch it soon. I know people really hate Genisys, but I enjoyed it. It felt a lot more like a Terminator film than the horrendous "Terminator Salvation", which felt like a Chris Nolan wannabe was making a Transformers movie! The story of Terminator Genisys was quite decent, and they also explained how the T-800 (Arnold) got old. We also see a few scenes form the first Terminator "recreated" for certain segments, so it had a little bit of a "Back to the Future" vibe as well. My only problem with Terminator Genisys was the casting. All three choices for the main roles (Sarah Connor, Kyle Reese, and John Connor) were completely wrong! Not criticizing the actors, but the fact that they were just not fit for the roles they were cast in.

I am one of the few who actually enjoys Terminator Salvation but they should have stopped after T2.
T3 was enjoyable enough but it felt more like a parody of a Terminator film, though I will give the movie credit for the ending.
Genisys is an abomination that leaches off of the fist two movies in the most laughable and shameless way possible.

It felt like a Terminator movie crossed with Mad Max and I am fine with that. I had always wanted to see a movie made about the actual future that Kyle Reese is from, so I kind of took what I could get LOL. I actually think the movie is well made and very entertaining which is shocking considering it was made by McG.
Genisys was absolute nonsense with an unnecessarily convoluted screenplay but the biggest problem is how poorly made and emotionally dead the movie is. The story may feel more like a Terminator film than Salvation but the directing feels far less like a Terminator film imo. It felt like a bad Marvel film to me.

To me it felt like a Transformers movie simply because of all the various non-humanoid robots (Bike Terminators, Aerostats, Harvesters, Giant Terminators, Tank Terminators, Sea Serpent Terminators etc etc.). Why does Skynet even bother creating all these? If it just wants to exterminate humans, there are a lot of other simpler ways like radiation or nerve gas or other such things. Skynet does not need to put a bullet into every single human being. I'm totally fine with you liking TS over TG. I'm not saying TG is a great movie or even near the level of the first two. But to me, it was more enjoyable and felt more like a Terminator movie than TS. The core concept of the Terminator movies is a cyborg assassin disguised as a human sent back in time to stop John Connor from existing. So because it takes place in our present time it makes the movie more relatable (T1, T2, T3, TG). The Terminator looks exactly like a human, it is an infiltration unit. It does its work without most of the people even knowing who or what it is. Despite taking place in populated cities, the battle is condensed only on the Terminator and the savior, with a few cops added in. Everybody else is oblivious to it. And most of the weapons of our times are not good enough to easily kill the machine, that makes it even more dangerous and a challenge. But moving the entire story to the future, like they did in TS, is something that did not sit well with me. Firstly, EVERYBODY knows about the Terminators and Skynet. It just ends up being another post-apocalyptic world movie where the good guys battle the bad guys in a wasteland. There's no excitement or anything new really to expect. There's not more suspense or secrecy. Most robots are just plain robots, not robots pretending to be humans. When a movie shows supernatural/futuristic/amazing things happening in our times and our location, it is more exciting than when they happen in their own time and place. Imagine if the "Transformer" movies were set on Cyberdyne. What would be so great about that? They wouldn't even need to transform into cars and trucks. It would just be a bunch of robots fighting each other on a world we don't care about.

I also assume that Skynet plans to repopulate the Earth with robots and this is the beginning of that.

^^^ Please don't insult my intelligence. You know damn well I know what the story and purpose of the first two. Point is, I would rather see a movie about the future world than yet another movie with the same exact basic story as the 3 before it. There is a reason the franchise should have ended after T2.
I did care about the future world and the characters in it and I also found the movie suspenseful and thrilling. I guess the difference is just that that story interests me and it doesn't many other people. Ever since I saw the first two I had always wanted to see a movie about that post apocalyptic future world.
TG is Hollywood grasping grasping at straws, but my main is that it is very poorly made and uses too much cgi and obvious green screens. I actually thought the first 30 min. was some of the worst crap I have ever seen, luckily it got a bit better as the movie went on.
