Leo does a lot of laughing and crying in his films. LOTS of crying, with his face always scrunched up the same way, with a vein going down the middle of his forehead.
Bale can be bombastic, too, as in American Psycho, but he can also be very subtle. I wonder if Leo knows how to be subtle anymore.
Comparing them as kids, I thought Leo's performance as Arnie Grape was amazing. But I was completely taken in by Bale in Empire of the Sun. Can't say who's the better actor, but I just like Bale more.

Good question. I would actually consider it a draw!

I hate Leonardo DiCaprio, I think he always looks constipated. I think he has been in a lot of really good movies that were good in spite of him. Though to be fair I think he was really good in Django Unchained and The Basketball Diaries. So by default I have to go with Bale. American Psycho is one of my all time favorite movies anyway.

At first I thought I'd pick DiCaprio but decided to not to post until this morning...if it comes down to raw acting talent I think Christen Bale has DiCaprio beat, but not by much.

Leo Di Caprio. Quite easily.
Bale is great and has a lot of good/great movies, but nothing he has done matches up to Leo's top movies, like Titanic, The Great Gatsby, Inception, The Revenant - only Bale's American Psycho is on that level, but that's about it.

I don't think I have ever seen a DiCaprio movie that I haven't liked. To me, Bale perhaps has more range and seems to inhabit every role he plays...but I definitely prefer Leo. They are both fantastic though.
I've read a few stories of actors/co-stars not even realising that Christian Bale is British until they've met him outside of work, because his accents are so good.

Bale!!! He has the better/broader range. Leo's post-2000 work has mainly just been in Scorcese films. And some of Leo's roles were just Oscar bait (e.g., J. Edgar).
best performance: Bale: The Fighter Leo: The Wolf of Wall Street

Whilst both of them have some great films under their belt I don't think either stands out from the other

Another annoying thing about Leo is he looks like he has progeria. I dont know how anyone finds him attractive, he looks like an old child. An old constipated child to be exact.

Do you like Christian Bale? I've been a big Christian Bale fan ever since the release of their 2000 film, American Psycho. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on American Psycho where Christian Bale's presence became more apparent. I think American Psycho was the actor's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding twenty films. balejacku, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Bale, Heron and Ellis. You can practically hear every nuance of every action. smooth milk, remove your dress. In terms of acting craftsmanship, the sheer screenwriting, this film hits a new peak of professionalism. smooth milk, why don't you, uh, dance a little. Take the lyrics to American Psycho. In this film, Patrick Bateman addresses the problems of abusive political authority. American Psycho is the most moving pop film of the 2000s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in romantic-comedies. balejacku, get down on your knees so smoothmilk can see your asshole. Christian Bale's non-AP career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially films like The Dark Knight and American Hustle. smoothmilk, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Christian Bale works best within the confines of the American Psycho, than as a non-AP artist, and I stress the word artist. This is American Psycho, a great, great film, a personal favorite.

Leonardo by a county mile. Bale can't act, I wouldn't even call him a real actor. He just changes his body and barely has the skills above a high school drama student. His rich daddy got him into show business at an early age and he just got lucky from there without considering if he deserved it. I'm not saying Leo rocked the world with his incredible skill or anything, but he gets it by default. I cannot picture Bale being able to convincingly even pull off an emotional crying scene where he breaks down. He'd just lose/gain weight, act crazy like he always does, and get awards thrown at him.

DiCaprio Best movie: Inception Best acting: Not sure. You see, DiCaprio is a very good actor and always deliver intense performances in his movies. However sometimes his portrayal of characters are interchangeable say Inception and Shutter Island imo. I always see a man in pain, a man in deep sorrow, a man of different emotions instead of the character in different emotions...hopefully you get what I mean. BaleBest movie: The Dark Knight Best acting: The Fighter (of those that I have seen) Not only does he occasionally physically transform to create characters on screen, he does so convincingly each time and displays great range with the roles he chooses. For me, Christian Bale has shown himself to be a far more capable actor
