Never heard of him but that's probably not so strange since he seems very local to england. Watch a few minutes from "The Early Bird" and what I saw was pretty fun. Might have to watch the full movie soon. Read his bio where someone compared him loosely to Chaplin and from the little I watched I got that vibe.

One of my all time favourite comedies is Nuts in May (1976). It was directed by Mike Leigh for the Play for Today series on the BBC. Here's a review; Also, have you checked out Laurel & Hardy? Nuts in May is a great choice puts a smile on my face the mere mention of the names Keith and Candice-Marie I was surprised to see the film listed recently In a Guardian article on the 50 best comedies ever which were voted on by a selected small group of film critics ..

Here's some I've given '10' or '9' votes on imdb. Comedy is pretty personal so of course ymmv, I don't think these have been mentioned: On Approval (1944) Great Mention , A Timeless universally appealing Classic... Helen (Googie Withers)... "What colour are my eyes George" , one of those unforgettable great moments in classic film.

Thanks for that, I found the article. What a great picture of the couple they used!

glenesq So you are the other person who has seen and loves "Genevieve". It's such a terrific film but sort of "lost". Another one from that same era is "Wee Geordie". I finally located that on ewe-tube. It's not a "fall down laughing" comedy but it's fun. "The Lavender Hill Mob" is a heist story with some laughs. Hi I saw Genevieve on TV maybe in the late 60s? and a few years ago burned it to dvd from a TCM screening. I suppose it's not all that well known here in North America, maybe British TV screens it fairly often? Great film. Save

fangirl1975Excellent choices fangirl! You have 2 from my OP (Pink Panther and Young Frankenstein) so I totally agree. Have seen Dr. Strangelove and Blazing Saddles and enjoyed them immensly. Don't think I've ever seen a whole Abbot and Costello film but I've wanted to for a long time. Will try to do it soon. Thanks again!

One, Two, Three, The Bank Dick and anything by Lubitsch. I appreciate many other comedies and sometimes find them funny but they rarely make me laugh out loud.

Lebowskidoo 🦞Thanks! Seen some and enjoyed them, especially Foul Play, Murder by Death, The Pink Panther Strikes Again and High Anxiety (now I'm very interested in a rewatch of Foul Play. "Beware of the dwarf"). Will check out the ones I haven't seen and many thanks for the suggestions!
