Let the creators produce what they intended artistically and let the chips fall where they may. I'd rather see honest art than wishy washy compromise aimed at mass appeal.
I understand why they do stick their noses in, of course; it's their dime.

I do think some directors need to be kept in check and not let their ego run amok. You don't want too much self-indulgence.

Yeah the artistic side of filmmakers give us more original films, and less sequels and remakes/reboots. I'm willing to give a different movie a chance if it's any good.

I do think some directors need to be kept in check and not let their ego run amok. You don't want too much self-indulgence. That's exactly what happened with Heaven's Gate; a director run amok with a blank check. As a result, producers were back in charge.

I think that movie, along with the success of blockbusters like Jaws and Star Wars, killed the wave of 1970's personal filmmaking.

I also wonder how much of the studio interference is due to Chinese investments.
