My only objection to Elba is that he'd be a return to the slick version of Bond, and I prefer the rough-edged direction they went with when they hired Craig. Fuck off, you SJW idiot. To help the minority children connect with superheroes. I went to a seminar at New York historical society about this very subject (why there aren't many successful minority superhero characters) and the rwasywqs the minority children asked said they would probably not even bother to read them because the character is a minority. So blame the minority kids who were asked. |

Alex Cross is a good example of one that could go the other way. The others you mention have too much racial identity. James Bond doesn’t have the same importance to racial identity as Shaft or Black Panther.
Elba being James Bond doesn’t bother me at all.

THAT MAN BOLT 1973, and with a black woman, CLEOPATRA JONES 1973.
These were not low budget either. In fact, there were no secret agent films starring white women made in this time from what I can see. The closet was FATHOM with Raquel Welch. And Bond was United Artists, not a big studio.
So a black woman got a starring action movie film by the big studios before a white woman did unless someone can point out an example (Modesty Blaise was European).

The problem with Ghostbusters isn't that they are female. The problem is the movie made it ABOUT them being female and that there was little to no effort put into anything in the movie.
Another big difference is that the Ghostbusters are Murray, Aykroyd, Hudson and Ramis. This is in no way similar to a franchise that has changed actors multiple times already.

That way you don't piss off long time fans... and then you have the freedom to create something from scratch, and can get rid of personality traits that are outdated, like: Bond sexually harassing women... I won't watch a movie with Idris Elba as "James Bond 007". I just won't be able to accept that kind of change, to a long established character... (He's ALWAYS been white!) But, if they hire him to play a new Double-0 character, I will watch those movies. I see NO reason why they can NOT be just as good. Just pass the torch from the old character to the new one, and let's move on! |

my pick is Henry Cavill to be the next Bond . . Esp after seeing him MI Fallout & the Man from UNCLE . He's the right age to build a franchise around. Dude, has the suave persona for it & certainly looks the part.
The problem with Elba is that IF he is cast as Bond, he'll be 50 fucking years old when the film finally wraps. No thanks !

Have a writer sit down and create a black character and then put it out for publication and then let the readers decide. It's called 'work'. It's what Stan Lee did years and years ago. He worked. He created.
I see what you are saying but if all Hollywood can do is take an established white character and make him black, that is the opposite of creativity.
Is this the extent of black creativity? They have to take a successful white character and make him black? That's it?
They have plenty of money to make comics, movies, tv shows. None of that is stopping them.

Create new characters for black people or women, don't take the traditional character and change it just because. Look, I'm all about ethnic diversity in film. However, create NEW roles for different ethnicities. Black Panther was great. Could you imagine if they remade Black Panther as a white guy 10 years from now? Black people would lose their minds. Remake Shaft with a white guy? Make a better Alex Cross with a better director and actor. Create a new espionage franchise with Idris Elba. It's just annoying to recast a role for the sake of doing it. Female Ghostbusters, Black 007, what next? Why not CREATE new roles and new films? Loved Wonder Woman. Needed a film, never had one, and it was great. Wow. You're a racist |
