DSDSquaredI never said I was a pro-critic. in fact, I think critics are given too much credit by some people as they often dis movies that the masses like etc etc. basically about the only thing they got going for them as they are better writers than the common person but other than that, their opinion is no better than the average person who's seen plenty of movies.
also, my rating system might 'look' complicated but it's actually very simple... it's basically a emotional response/feeling I get from watching a movie and the more I enjoy it the higher the score and the less I enjoy it the lower the score (I rate movies in relation to ALL movies I have seen as I don't rate by genre as that's flawed. so when I score a movie high, you know I like it a lot in comparison to all movies and ones I score low are crap in comparison to all movies etc). this is likely very similar, if not exactly, how the majority of people rate movies. it's the only way that make sense is ones personal enjoyment otherwise it's just trying to basically 'guess' what others might like which I think is pointless.
Based on what? ; a more accurate way to judge me would be to look at My Favorite Movies. if you honestly feel a solid portion of those are crap, then I would not have a problem with you saying my taste in movies is bad.
because since I only like about 25% of ALL movies I see it would be easy for you to select plenty of movies to use against me if you want to try to find something negative with my taste in movies. but I think my method is a more accurate way to judge someones overall taste in movies simply because it's what I praise the most. so if you genuinely did not like the movies I like alot, then it would be far more legitimate for you to write me off and say my taste in movies is crap. but I suspect you would not be able to say it then so it's just easier for you to keep cheery picking the worst examples of me not agreeing with the majority to use against me.
sdm3My rating system is simply based on a feeling/emotional response I get from watching a movie... the more I enjoy it etc the higher the score and the less I enjoy it the lower the score. it's really that simple. surely, knowing this info... you would no longer make that comment, right?
to dis my rating system would be to dis a lot of peoples since I kind of assume what I said above applies to A LOT (as in a easy majority) of people.
trust me, what you said in the bold actually makes you look bad since you basically just dissed most people.
also, ill add this... a while back when people had topics on IMDB2 and IMDb boards asking for peoples rating systems, I noticed mine is quite similar to the vast majority as while people might have used different words for each 1 through 10 rating you can see they mean pretty much the same thing.
but with that said... about the only thing I noticed that does vary a bit is that people seem to break things into the following two categories...
Type 1) 5/10 or less = Thumbs Down. 6/10 or higher = Thumbs Up.
Type 2) 6/10 or less = Thumbs Down. 7/10 or higher = Thumbs Up.
I am apart of 'Type 1' even though I used to be of 'Type 2' as I mainly changed to Type 1 since Type 2 is a bit too limiting. basically Type 1 is just right.
p.s. but I will add this to based on the basic score system above... a 5/10 is basically what I consider 'average' and while average is not bad it's ultimately a negative score because I won't re-watch average movies. basically for me... anything I score a 6/10 or higher ill re-watch and anything I score a 5/10 or less I won't re-watch(with rare exception).
NOTE: I am aware that some people claim that say a 5/10(average) is neither a Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down, but I basically consider it a Thumbs Down because the movie will be ultimately forgettable for that person as the years pass. it's not something they will care to see again and in this regard it's pretty easy to see it's closer to a Thumbs Down than a Thumbs Up at that point.
