Think of all the damage done to those children, lives forever altered, trust betrayed, fear of having kids of their own... all covered up by the Catholic church. What would Jesus do?
If you have the urge to harm a child, just frigging kill yourself, I think that suicide would be forgiven.
I hope there is some sort of support group for victims of this. It is more conducive to surviving if there are others who understand.

I can feel compassion for some of the perpretrators because they are not well. I have zero sympathy for the Church officials who continue to cover up what has happened and who consistently act to obstruct justice for the victims. They refuse to fully acknowledge what they and the institution they represent have contributed to.

They refuse to fully acknowledge what they and the institution they represent have contributed to. Pedophiles are monsters and treatment is rarely effective. But I can sympathize if they were victims, too. It's just hard to get others, who've had no contact with victims, to understand the extent of the damage done. Human behavior is influenced by four things: genetics, brain chemistry, psychology and environment. Some people are born without a conscience; sociopaths and psychopaths. They have no ability to feel empathy and derive pleasure from torture. They feel no remorse. Those people can only be locked up for life. Zero sympathy for the Church officials here, too.

It's almost getting to point where it will be newsworthy when they find a member of a church who isn't guilty of sexual abuse or covering up one of their colleague's sexual crimes.
The rest - we kind of expect them all to be guilty now don't we?

For those reading this who are outside the US, the 300 accused priests are/were just from the state of Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania is just one of 50 US states.

Read the article. It's 70 years. Most of the cases are far past the statute of limitations for criminal prosecution. That's part of the debate. The Church has been fighting tooth and nail to keep the statute of limitations for sexual abuse of children from being expanded to allow for victims who are now adults older than 30 to be able to seek justice for acts allegedly committed when they were children.

Yeah right, Washington Post. I mean when it started being revealed that almost everyone in Hollywood or on TV was either an abuser or abused by one, I had to wonder whether that investigative work needs to be rechecked. You do realize many of those claims are not conclusive or supported by any forensic techniques?

By they'll confess and tell Jesus they are sorry, so they'll get to go to heaven, while me and other atheists who've, ya know...never molested children, will go to hell. Makes sense.

This is not "reporting by the biased liberal media." There's a 900-page grand jury report. Its release was blocked in litigation by members of the church. The case was appealed to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, who ordered its release with some redactions that will be further debated in future court proceedings.

I'm sorry, "900 hundred" pages are no more convincing than 9, you obviously have no idea what you're talking about or how forensic science actually works. Now you go finish your cereal.

You dismissed the article out of hand because "Washington Post." I pointed out that the information was based on a 900-page report. Newspapers like the Washington Post don't produce 900-page reports. That was the point. I don't know why I even bother.

It would help immensely if you did know. Goddam Arlon, do you wear a THC patch or something? What do you want from me? To say the thread title is especially appropriate? Okay, the thread title is especially appropriate. You can go back to your knuckle dragging now.
