I thought about creating a "movie versus" fight every week where we get to match up two similar MCU movies going head to head to see which movie is more widely recognized as the better movie. The idea is to pit 2 movies that are similar in ratings and popularity, as well as making sure they have a common theme. For this week, we get the Galactic Division:
Thor: Ragnarok vs. Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 1
Which movie did you like better?

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed BOTH movies.
However, Thor Ragnarok didn't really feel like a Thor movie. It felt like a comedy that took place in the MCU, that explained what happened to Thor and Hulk last, since we didn't see them in Civil War. Thor didn't behave like Thor. It was a nice opportunity for Chris Hemsworth to show off some comedy chops and for director Taika Waititi to show that he could handle a big budget, but it didn't have much substance.
Both GOTG's on the other hand use comedy and music in an organic way to great effect, and never lets us forget that its a great sci-fi adventure either.

Since GotG is one of the most overrated movies of all time, I'll take Thor any day.

being a mythology and history buff I harbor huge reservations towards Thor: Fragglrock in terms of source integrity, trilogy continuity, screenplay and technical execution. Especially when it tries to rip off the sillier Guardians formula for more profit. That being said, I personally prefer Thor crying like a girl when getting his hair cut to "dance-off, you big turd blossom". At least they did not make Thor dance... In numbers that dance-off correlates to: Thor-Fragglerock: 5.5 points GotRT: 3 points ![](https://media.giphy.com/media/QgCwRigEAxqGQ/giphy.gif) ![](https://media.giphy.com/media/gC4XkISY9r70I/giphy.gif)

This is hard because both are probably in my top five MCU movies. I picked Thor 3.

I was mildly surprised at how easily I chose GoTG. They're both highly entertaining films and I've always been a Thor fan. Ragnarok was incredible, and both feature excellent soundtracks. But something about the character dynamics and the unexpected heart of Guardians tips the scales for me.

As with Thor whining like a MCU fanboy, the dance-off reference is just a summary quote like "Luke, I'm you father" to get the point across. Satirical license & freedom, like with "GotRT", and that's not really Thor dancing either. If you want to sniff the full marvelous dialogue unfiltered, knock yourself out: Peter Quill: [dances] Ooh, child, things are gonna get easier. Ooh child, things will get brighter. You listen to these words. Ooh child, things are gonna get easier. Ooh child things'll get brighter. Then bring it down hard! Someday… Ronan: What are you doing? Peter Quill: ![](https://s26.postimg.cc/w7v8ch9qx/cooldance.gif) Dance-off, bro. Me and you. [holds out his hand for Gamora] Peter Quill: Gamora. [she shakes her head] Peter Quill: Subtle, taking it back. Ronan: What are you doing? Peter Quill: I'm distracting you, you big turd blossom! Gamora: Peter, take my hand! [Quill grabs her hand, and Drax and Rocket do the same] Ronan: You're mortal! How... Peter Quill: You said it, bitch. We're the Guardians of the Galaxy. ![](https://s26.postimg.cc/xynwotmzd/explode.gif) [the Guardians strike Ronan] TristanIncarnate: ![(puke)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sick.png)

You know what? Fuck it! I'm going to say it and I don't care how controversial it may be.
I picked Thor Ragnarok because it's the only good Thor film. I didn't like the previous two and the lack of Darcy made it better.
Yeah it wasn't faith to the mythology but I could careless about that.
It was a fun film and Chris Hemsworth is hot as fuck!
Also it's funnier than GOTG.

This is a very tough decision because both are outstanding. But I just rewatched Thor Ragnarok last night and it was better than ever. So, as of today, I am voting for Thor.

I'll say Thor because it has the better villain.
