Gold opens (aka tickets bought out in advance for support & giveaways etc) was the headline on Friday... & now the headline is the movie is a hit. If I buy every ticket to the Jays 81 home games, are they the best selling franchise ever? Has there been an actual comparison of ticket sales for movies and sports events?

Does it have a heart, or is it '50 Shades' style wealth porn? It's kinda wealth porn that wags its finger at wealth porn. The crazy rich Asians themselves are mostly completely unlikable monsters who look down on our heroine for being working class, yet their lifestyles are glamorized to the point of fetishism. Reminded me of the Leo DiCaprio Great Gatsby in that regard.

Just looks like a rom-com, or am I missing something? Yep, and not a particularly good one. Full of cliches and caricatures.

Wife dragged me to watch this tonight.... was surprised to actually enjoy it. I won't go as far to say it was great, but I usually hate rom-coms and I found I enjoyed this one. So take that as you will.

so apart from someone enjoying and all asian cast (which I get, but thats hardly a first movie of its kind) what else was there to like? sure, nice shots of singapore and pretty people. but it was So Hard to relate to/like anybody there. the crazy rich asians were too crazy and too rich, and while i dont doubt there are people like that that exist and have seen plenty of model and rich looking people in Singapore and hongkong, it was just so hard to buy into that they were all either pure evil like the evil cousins or so well meaning and sweet like Nick.
I agree it was well shot and overall a sweet "Cinderella" story (but not really since when is a pretty, educated and successful nyu professor a Cinderella type) and was fairly harmless to look at but i guess i expected much more with all the hype, than bunch of stereotypes thrown amongst shots of insane wealth. i mean the most ridiculous being one of the cousins that we were somehow manipulated to feel sorry for because she couldnt openly wear her expensive jewelry and shoes? come on.
plus since I dont know how mahjong is played, the last scene that OBVIOUSLY had real significance to the story was lost on me. Which is too bad because it looked like there was actually a strategy behind shuffling all those pieces.

Which is too bad because it looked like there was actually a strategy behind shuffling all those pieces. Rachel needed either a 5 Bamboo tile or 8 Bamboo tile to win. It was her turn to draw a tile from the stack and she drew an 8 Bamboo so she had a winning hand. But she discarded the 8 Bamboo. Eleanor needed either a 3 Dots tile or an 8 Bamboo tile to win. When Rachel discarded the 8 Bamboo, Eleanor could claim that tile from the discard pile since that tile would give her a winning hand. She claimed that tile and turned over her tiles to show that she had a winning hand. When Rachel got up to leave, Rachel turned over her tiles showing that she would've won if she had kept the 8 Bamboo tile.

Are others asking for a sequel. I guess the fans of the book series maybe?

Are others asking for a sequel. I guess the fans of the book series maybe? I mean crazy rich Asians feels like a very similar situation parallel with My big fat greek wedding, just because an audience existed for a movie, doesn't mean they demand a prompt or overlong sequel.

What the world needs right now during the cost of living crisis, rising inflation, Russia invading a country and freezing another and Roe V Wade is a movie starring Gemma Chan the living breathing embodiment of joy.

From Constance Wu:
"...Yeah! Well, I did just have lunch with one of the producers a few weeks ago to talk about getting ready to film the sequel. And I loved working with everybody. Awkwafina has become one of my best friends, so I'm really excited to get back in that saddle and give you all a sequel."

What we really need is less sequels for properties which are 4 years old already.
