So I just watched Amityville: The Awakening. It sucked. In fact its the very worst Amityville film I have seen and I seen the rip off version. The whole film is just a very generic haunted house film. Its not scary or hardly entertaining. Plus you could easily see the cuts they made to get a PG-13 rating. Its a total mess of a film. Sad to see Jennifer Jason Leigh wasted in this.

I originally had high hopes when I heard Jennifer Jason Leigh was going to be in it but agree that this was a turd.

It was pretty weak. Don't know if it's worse than the third one, though.

It's definitely not the worst. Try Amityville Exorcism from the same year.

Yeah me too because she gives one of my all time favorite villian performences in The Hateful Eight. So I thought it was this was going to be cool but she had no good matieral to work with.

There are bad Amityville movies and then there are boring Amityville movies.
This was both.
I expected better from the cast and director.

(Something like 4-5 years) Not sure if less studio interference would've helped. It sounds like even if the gorey bits were put back in the movie still sounds mediocre. Still I'm kinda curious. I'll watch it someday.

I definitely expected better, especially given the director also did the Maniac remake (which was pretty good and creepy).

Didn't know the "Maniac" director did it. That is a bummer. I have that dvd.

I was looking forward to this movie 'cause a lot of sites I read were saying it was going to be good and a return to form for the 'Amityville' series but this seems to be what is happening with Horror movie franchises after they have been around for a long time and there have been some exceptions in my opinion but a lot of them just fall apart in the later movies and I am not sure if it is a case of the writers running out of ideas or they just don't care anymore and throw together anything and slap a name on it to make money but a lot of Horror franchises I have loved have gone really downhill in the last decade or two and I honestly don't know if they can turn them around or not.

I'd rather rewatch Amityville 4: I Love Lamp or 1992: It's About A Clock than sit through this slog again.

Yes, it was awful. I turned it off in the middle of it the first time I watched it but then I re-watched it a few weeks later and my opinion still didn't change.

Another unnecessary sequel, but having Jennifer Jason Leigh only means I will probably sit through it anyway. That's what horror producers rely on, the fans and their loyalty and devotion to a movie and it's sequels, otherwise we'd skip it.
