John Carpenter's The Thing I always associate with August because I first bought it in August about 14 years ago and it became one of my favorite films. Not just the film but the entertaining commentary by Carpenter and Russell. Also, August tends to be the hottest month here and watching The Thing is very cool.

A lot of films that I saw from the mid to late '90s I associate with various girls I was dating at the time. Gets a little awkward when my wife and I are scrolling through films on Amazon or Netflix to stream and she asks if I've ever seen that particular film...
The other ones I remember particularly are the ones I saw with my Dad, since it was a rare treat to get to hang out with him when I was growing up. He worked shift work and put in as much overtime as possible so it was pretty rare to go out with him and my brother. Short list:
Smokey and the Bandit II Empire Strikes Back Top Gun Hunt for Red October

Rodan – I saw it as part of a friend's birthday party the day after JFK's assassination
Two-Lane Blacktop – I saw it the night before I went into the army

Saw The Empire Strikes Back on my birthday in 1980.
I saw it again in February 1997 the same day I saw Scully and Mulder outside a library filming an X Files episode. Appropriately both were FOX productions.
