Since kids seem to spend all their time in front of the tv - movies and video games.

With texting, email and all the social media people read and write more than ever. However, you probably mean traditional reading: nope, don't think it's dying at all.

Not so much because of those distractions. It could be less parents are sitting down and reading with their kids and just letting them play on whatever device and having them out of their hair.

I hope not.
I haven't finished all the books I want to read yet.
Plus, I occasionally like to re-read some of my personal favourites.

I don't think so.
My daughter is 21 and she reads a lot.
I'm a teacher in an elementary school and I see a lot of kids reading novels for pleasure. We have a well-stocked library that is constantly being added to.
Most of the people I know in my age group read regularly.

I very much doubt it. I belong to the Goodreads library site and enter their giveaways for review copies of books. There's usually a couple of hundred new ones coming out every week and that's just the printed ones. There's also the various electronic versions I rarely read.

Well, something has definitely been happening to the way the public consumes physical media. I have copy of a Time magazine from 1963 and the amount of text is astounding. The articles tend to be longer than what you see today and many have little to nothing by way of photographs or illustrations. In comparison a modern issue almost seems as if it is catering to kids.

Or shortened attention spans.

@nxnwrocks: As a teacher-librarian in a large school I know that kids are reading more than ever. And this on top of the textese. As well, not all the stuff they read on their screens is social media stuff. While I circulate a huge number of books (my school has 1800 students) I know that any of them are also reading on their devices.
