The new one coming out has sweet artwork, but it seems stupid to buy all seven books when I haven't read any. I have this kind of urge and it never usually ends well.

I did buy them a couple of years ago because i wanted to see what they where like. And if they where as good as i have seen many people say even adults.
Personally i found them boring and not very good. So i did not care for them at all.

I can see readers who tend to more serious classical reading not liking them . But I have a complete set from sometime back and thoroughly enjoyed them . You have to be a reader who believes in the imaginary , or they will fall over . Jennifer Rowling is a good writer and the story is involving and becomes complicated , more so than the movies . But overall they are a lot more explanatory than the movies . The books can only be read in order because the story evolves and progresses , or other- wise they won't make sense .

I do mostly read classical work from between 1700 and 1900. I guess that could be the reason why i did not like them.

I didn't care for the books and I read them all when my daughter was into Harry Potter. You should borrow the first one and if you like it consider getting the box set.

From my understanding, Percy Jackson is a knockoff to the point that they got the same guy who directed the first two Harry Potter movies to direct its adaptation. I'd say go for it. And just remember that for the most part, the series gets better as it goes along.

I blind bought a box set of paperbacks, which was announced for North America 2009 but was yanked only to be released at the time from the UK. My amazon.uk shipment of a giant blue mail bag from across the pond was neat.

I quite enjoyed them. the first thre books are the best, the later ones get a bit boring, too much love stuff, and the last one in particular is very slow moving (someone suggested it should be renamed Harry Potter and the Extended Camping Trip.
